Xboxhdm & Usb Pen Drive

I currently do not have a floppy drive, so would I be able to substitute a bootable pen drive for Xboxhdms utilities? Or do you absolutely have to use a floppy to boot the program? Thanks in advance.

I use cd-r or dvd-r personally.
