Locking Xbox Hard Drive?
« on: May 17, 2006, 03:14:00 PM »

I checked and it seemed like my hard drive was lockable, but when I use xbox HDM 1.9 It never seems to lock it when I type lockhd -a.  Is there another version that works better or does my hard drive just not work?

Here's something you can try...

Boot to xboxhdm and select option 4.
At the command prompt type in "atapwd" without the quotes.
Select your hdd on the screen and press enter then select Security Mode or whatever and press enter. Then you get options to unlock and lock and all sorts of stuff. Select Lock with Master Password. The password should be "XBOXSCENE" or "TEAMASSEMBLY" without quotes.

that is only to unlock a hdd that was locked wtih xboxHDM or configmagic

you can lock with DOS tools but you must have the password first
liveinfo3 under XP with the eeprom.bin/HDD key will give the correct password to lock with

type unlockhd -a under option 3 and it will tell you if the drive is lockable or not.

I tried that and it said that the drive was not locked, so I tried to lock it and got this error "error - This Drive does not Support the ATA security Spec."  Does this mean the my drive is not lockable?

Yeah I checked that list and my hard drive is listed 3 times as being lockable.

I am going to try it on another computer later tonight and see If I get the same error.

Well I made a floppy boot disk and tried it on another computer and it looked like it locked it so I checked with atapwd and it said not lockable.  I tried it anyhow and got error 5.  Its no big deal since I got the hdd free from a friend. Thanks for the help

"This Drive does not Support the ATA security Spec." Does this mean the my drive is not lockable"

I had the same problem with my WD Caviar SE which apperntly has had some issues locking, but I had the exact same hard drive before, but I ended up bricking it and took out the warrenty on the drive and got a replacement and I've yet to get it to look with the latest XBHDM and its frustrating. So maybe if u figure yours out it can help me.
