dear adam, the only way is to hotswap m8 uve gotta use iso image of xbohdm and uve got to put the stock files off slayers 2.6, ive managed to do it and there is a tutorial on it, its the locking tools i ad prob with i put on floppy and put in command but they did not work and i found if u press pause /break option b4 ide check then switch on xbox till u get error 11 or 12 then put pc ide cable in xbox, then enter or spacebar to start ide check works best,  and  i read that xbrowser is best to copy dash.xbe over to xbox hd and i may ave ad probs with the locking tools cause i ad no eeprom and ive looked everywhere, there seems no guide on anyway to get eeprom, apart from already modded box but i ave the prob of no eeprom, ive tried a old pc hd but that says u still need eeprom, to generate a hdd key, so i think my cause i lost but if u need any help let me know.

theres links to (the art of hotswapping) and it makes life easier with your eeprom for locking the hd after u put c back in, the guides good the only things i  found difficult to understand was that in xboxhdm which u find on this site in tools is that u need slayers 2.6 or a backup of  a c drive and put the c from slayers/system/all/c and ur eeprom into eeprom folder on xboxhdm, also wen u hotswap i found it easier to press pause/break b4 ide check say on memory test on pc screen then start xbox wait for xbox to click then take ide cable from xbox (got a 5 second gap cause u got to get error 11 or 12 this is because dvd drive is unplugged thats where u get error from and ur xbox hd is unlocked, god willing)and replace with ide from pc then press enter or space bar then pc should recognise ur xbox hd then cause ur booting from cdrom the iso image of xboxhdm boots in then follow guide, make sure u got it rite in ur head first and things  r set up tidy like xbox and tv clause to pc, dont bang ur xbox about wen doing ide cable cause that will naff it and eye the slots up maybe make a little mark cause u can fumble bout abit and its best to do it first time cause if it takes u several tries, that can naff ur hd up, this program can also build from scratch so if u need new hd urs the site to show which hds r best http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/ any more questions let me know but read the art of hotswapping guide and the xboxhdm if u cant find slayers let me know. ur lucky cause u got eeprom i aint found anyway to get mine cause it naffed up wen it was stock and im not suer how u get it from a new hd.

it can stuff up, in and out with ide cable aint good for it so try get it right first time, make sure the ide cable from pc is bent just the way u want it, so u can put fingers behind and just push in and if u got old pc maybe use that rather than the brand new one u had for xmas.

Adam, if you have a backup of your eeprom, you don't need to hotswap.  You can just connect the harddrive to your pc and unlock it using xboxhdm.

its naffed, dead, dont make any noise nothing and the other one a old pc one doesnt lock so got a couple more pc ones going to try them out. theres just a couple of things that rattle my brains.

1. if u dont ave eeprom off a stock hd, how can u get it.
2. if u use a pc hd how do u get it to lock without eeprom or how do u get it.

its the locking tools that r doing me head in.

ill start nother post with all me little questions cause the guides to locking says u need eeprom and theres no way around it, if u c nethin out there that help me let me know cheers m8, im going to check out slayers 2.6 and xboxhdm guide now and the ndure 3 for pc, c if they ne help. take care
