I recently softmodded and upgraded the harddrive for my girlfriend's xbox and although the HD Swap was a bit of a pain the actual softmodding with SID 2.0 (Yes, now I know!!) was a piece of cake. In fact, I couldn't believe how easy it was (we truly walk in the footsteps of intellectual giants (IMG:style_emoticons/default/love.gif) ).

2 friends of friends asked if I could do theirs for them as well and, as I had bragged about how easy it was, I had little choice but to acquiese. I had deleted SID from the AR memory card and copied it back again but the save must have become corrupted on the second transfer to the memory card (yes, now I know not to us AR cards (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) ). The result is 2 xboxes both showing error 21.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

My super huge mistake (as opposed to all the little ones) was agreeing to do this at someone else's house who did not own a computer so, although I backed up the eproms  and C drives of  both xboxes, I cannot access them.

One of the xboxes can still boot originals but I cannot redo the mod as the first thing I did was to delete the SID saves as I could see that I no longer had access to MSDASH. The second xbox will not boot anything as far as I can see (back-ups or originals). I have got NDURE 1.1 from the usual places and copied it to the memory card using a modded xbox but I cannot transfer it to the first xbox as I do not have access to MSDASH or ftp. As for the second xbox, I can't do a darn thing.

Can anyone please, please offer any advice. I can't afford to replace both of these xboxes and these friends of friends are both pretty hard cases and would not accept anything other than fully working soft-modded boxes back by Sunday and I'm a bit worried  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Would hotswapping cure my problems? Someone please tell me what to do as I'm, basically, kacking myself here.

edit: ok second xbox will load originals as well. My mistake.

If this is the case I did a (google) search on the site and after reading about 60 error 21 cases, I found this reply.

"Easy
Connect xbox to internet
Insert a newer game that has live eg. Halo 2
go to live
It will put the Ms dash back on you xbox.
Now that was easy"

Is this the case? Can I do this and then softmod with NDURE 1.1 after backing up all contents to my PC this time??

Someone please confirm this as I'm totally desperate at the mo and don't have a Live game to hand to try but if this is the case then my knee caps are saved and I might be able to get some sleep tonight (02.30 in the UK).

Can anyone confirm above so I can get some sleep tonight???

OK, just tried it with "Brothers In Arms - Road to Hill 30" and didn't work. It searched for an xbox live account and as there was none there offered to take me to open one and tried to open MSDASH which, of course, took me back to the ERROR 21 screen. (me so sad!!!).

Could anyone else advise???

the game saves are gone from both xbox?

you also didn't backup the eeprom.bin in your PC as well?

If that is the case, then you can either hotswap or buy a modchip to fix.

thanks for the reply. You reminded me that the second xbox (now I've realised that it still boots originals should have the game saves still on it) and I can get back into the soft mod.

Could you or anyone else answer me this question?

I have two spare 8 gig orig. drives left over from when I upgraded my and my girlfriend's xbox's. If anything goes wrong when I hotswap the first xbox hard drive, can I use either of these instead?

The reason I ask is I tried to hotswap using the chimp cloning tool when installing the upgraded hardrive for my girlfriend and that ended up buggering the drive (heads were sticking) so I'm reluctant to go that route again but would be willing to give it a go if I knew that I had two more hard drives to try out with it.

Can anyone confirm if this is the case? Both spare harddrives should be unlocked as far as I know and I have the eeprom for at least one of them. Really appreciate the help and advice. ;o)

If you don't have the eeprom for the Xbox you are trying to install the other HDD to, then it won't work.

my advice is to Hotswap, use XBHDM to return the Xbox back to stock.

you'll need an unmodded "c" drive files, you can extract from Slayer's 2.6 .iso using Qwix.

Ok the second xbox is Tickety-Boo (yay!).

The first xbox is still FUBAR (Boo!)

I've read a good deal from the links that you sent me, chorizo1, so a very hearty thanks for those.

Now for the hotswap... this is gonna mean major surgery on the xbox (and possibly just one of my kneecaps, to boot!).
