I Have A 1.6 Xbox With Kernal 5838

I was reading that in order to softmod you need an earlier version of Xbox than I have... am I screwed as far as softmodding is concerned?

No, use Krayzies NDURE installer 1.1.  It works on all versions of xbox and will definetly work on yours, and is the best installer out there.  Read up on it in the pinned section of the XBE forum.
