Unlocked A Softmodded Hard Drive :\
« on: April 19, 2006, 07:10:00 PM »

Well,
XboxHDM will be your best bet (as far as i know)

Download it
Make the Iso (leaving out the Eeprom/C/E drives)
then choose Locking utilltiys
then re lock the old HD with the key you have

and if you want to Swap to the other one, there are ALOT of Tuts on it

Things you will need

Xboxhdm
CD writer
Cd r
old HD key
and basic knowledge of hooking up and disconnecting HDD's of a computer

If you want to try it, I will do my best to describe how "I" would go about it.

Now this may not be the best way to do this, buts its what I would do

Well,
I used a burning program called Burn4Free
to burn my boot disc

and have to make sure your boot order is correct in your pc's bios

Make sure its in one of the cd roms, and Reboot your computer.
it should say something about booting from cd

No prob,

and yes in the main DIR of the HDM, there is a Make-iso.bat (i think thats what its called)
Just double click it and let it do its thing, should take a few minutes (well mine did, but i have a old ass comp)
If a Dos window does not pop up, you may have to go thru the "Run" command thru start

Hmm, heard it could be my bios on the computer... "freezing" the lock. So I tried in my other comp.. and it locked it.

However... it locked, and didnt seem to use the password I gave it sleep.gif took a picture of the keys I typed... tried to retype it 100 times, and it wont unlock. Getting annoyed... thinking of just paying the $45 to get them to upgrade the hard drive for me. I hate soft modding... I guess it's cheapest way...but personally, I'd rather have an X3 in it :\

Hmm, I have Soft Modded like 8 Boxes so far, (2 are mine) I have done 3 HDD up grades and really haven't had any problems, (Well the first one was alittle tricky) But once I learned got past the first one its a breeze.
I have no exp. with chips but I have heard that they are alittle easier to use when doing Up Grades. But for the 45$us I would have spent on a chip, I got a 40 gig HD, and as far as I know a soft mod can do pretty much anything a chiped box can. So I am all for the cheap and easy way of doing things, But hey thats just me.

And about the HD, If you mistyped the key, then you are kind of screwed. but i could be wrong

you should start your own post, and the answer is hotswap or modchip.

I would suggest using xboxhdm, the softmod should have backed up the eeprom and xboxhdm will lock it for you with that.
