Hey ages ago like a year or 2 i softmodded using krayzie's v1.0, just upgraded to v1.1 today (your a champ krayzie). Anyway I bought a 120GB western digital its WDC WD1200BB and I formatted it using XboxHDM, when I tried to lock it it said it was succesful but the xbox gave me error 05. So i tried locking it a few more times until It wouldn't let me do anything at all with it, I couldn't format it, heaps of options were unavailable. When I asked for help I was told the IDE channel might be locked and to try connecting it after the computer has been booted up.

Reading the thread about the Seagate not locking someone said something about frozen drive? Is this what I have?

Also one more question, it was so long ago that I can't remember if a floppy drive is 100% neccessary for xboxhdm.. I don't have one anymore and I can't get one.

Please help I'm sick of the stock 10gb hard drive.

It's not even a year yet since 'eh.' inspired it (and krayzie's Ndure 1.0 was released in August)...

Yeah I think it was around september that I did the krayzie softmod last year to be honest, seems like ages though. I've searched for my old thread but ... there's alot of pages of threads.

So any help please?

Hi, I have an update, I took my hard drive to my mates place today (he has a floppy drive and easy access to tower) and plugged it in. Booted to the xboxhdm linux disc, went to option 3 and tried unlockhd -a. It didn't work, it still had:

"forgot": Yes
Drive Security Enabled: Yes
Drive Locked: Yes
Drive Frozen: No
"forgot": No

So I've come to the conclusion that I have incorrectly locked the xbox last time somehow. The floppy drive wouldn't seem to boot (boot from disk failed). The linux option 3 lock/unlock tools dont allow me to enter the master passwords, letters restricted to a-f. Option 4 stops on "- Init Disk" and wont do anything else. So how else can I get into ATAPWD?

Getting sick of not being able to edit. I just put the hard drive in my xbox and booted her up to see what error i got and its 06.

"6 - kernel - Cannot unlock HDD". So if i can get this floppy drive to work, the passwords i should try are:
WDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWD
XBOXSCENE
TEAMASSEMBLY

is this correct?

edit: Reading how to boot into DOS when running Windows XP (http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article07-106), it says you can't. So how am I going to run ATAPWD?? Please I'm over the moon that theres a possibility i can get this baby working. Whoever helps me solve this will be number 2 on my xbox-scene awesome people list (sorry krayzie is on top for life).

Yep those are the master passwords to try (if you have never locked it with something that automatically sets the master pw e.g. config magic it should be set to the WDC... one so give that one a go first).

You can run atapwd from xboxhdm.  At the xboxhdm boot screen just choose boot to dos (option 4 I think) then you can run atapwd from here.  Once in atapwd press enter to bring up the menu, been a while since I used it so can't remember the exact names of the options but it's pretty obvious what to do (something like "unlock with master password).

Option 4 just stops at the line "-Init Disk". So yeah..

YAY It's working! Thank you krayzie for your brilliant softmod, thanks Ldots for your awesome linux distro and thank you anyone who has ever helped me.

Heres what happened, the first time (last sept) i tried locking it it somehow used the wrong code even though I put lockhd -a. So I got a computer that would boot the floppy up and used atapwd.exe to try the western digital master code but it was rejected, so i tried the xboxscene master code and it unlocked, then i disabled it. Loaded up into option 3 xboxhdm and locked it with lockhd -a (same eeprom.bin on the disc). It said completed but...

Security enabled: yes
Security locked: no

I didn't realise that "security enabled" means locked. I'm guessing "security locked" is when you can't try unlock it anymore?
