You havent locked the drive!  That's why it works in your chipped box.  The HD out of your other box won't work as it's locked to that one (or not locked at all).

Look in the "Software" section of xbox-scene. Provided you know your HD password, you should be able to lock the hard drive using linux tools on your computer. There should be tutorials telling you how to do it. I believe the tool to use is called "hdlock.exe"

Answer: No, if you installed a different dashboard, you could still run signed code (original games). All the hard drive locking will do is allow you to boot into your original MS dashboard. If you boot into EvoX, Avalauch, UnleashX, etc. you'll still be able to run your original game discs and whatnot.

Answer: Yes, there is still hope. A smart fellow made a tool that brute forces the ATA password stored on the hard drive. There is a pinned tutorial somewhere in the forums on how to do it. If I come across it I will post it in this topic, otherwise, I would suggest you start browsing the xbox-scene.com tutorials. It's on there somewhere. Good luck.

i think i did something stupid, i think i deleted my backup file as i get the error 21 message but the system still allows me to play games it just doesn't go to the desktop?? I try and reinstall the splinter cell save files and it goes to a french version of the UMX installer but then says no! Anyhow i can get a new back up or how can fix my dahsboard and try again? thanks!

To update, i think i deleted some files when i looked in the save section under unleashx (its in french so harder to navigate!) thats what i think did the HD and error 21?? However i can go through splinter cell and reload linux but get to screen which asks to back up, can explore drive and see that i have eeprom.bin file and txt file which shows HD password so is this any help to maybe reinstallin HD??

just checked, ftp wont let me connect to xbox for some reason? is it possible to connect the HD to pc as secondary and extract that way then use cd? Anyone know how or if?? I mean i can get into explorer from going through splinter cell hack but not MS dashboard??

you don't need a msdashboard. just ftp in. if you don't know how ftp works go to the n00bie forums. make sure your network settings are correct before burning the disc.

Try Switching PASV mod on or off on your FTP client.

you could use slayers to restore to absolute stock but you would have to be carefull with it. (never unlock your hd for instance).
then use a decent package instead of that french crap

my xbox not chipped so how can i run slayers disc?? sorry im not hot on this side as never had this trouble. It has all come from the french crap program

the french crap comes frome france and not from this site. whoever told you to use it is a moron. and first start by being clear in what you can and cannot do. you say you can run games. Can you run burned discs also? can you load your exploited save? If one of the last two questions was yes you should be able to solve everything very easily and you should not need to hotswap. Just learn to use ftp
