Making Gamesaves
« on: December 25, 2005, 09:07:00 PM »

Hey, I know it's rather late to even think about asking a question like this, but I was thinking about this today and was kind of bored, so I tried to do it anyways.  I was simply wondering how people made gamesave exploits.  I know (or at least I think) a couple things about it, but not much.  So here's what I tried to do.

I took a look at Krayzie's Installers (both UXE and NDURE) and figured it couldn't be that hard to make homebrew run from a gamesave.  So I made a new folder on my computer and titled it My Gamesave.  Inside that, folders titled SC Save 1 and 2.  Then UDATA inside both of those.  And then the folder id's (21585554 and 5553000c).  Inside SC Save 2, (UDATA/5553000c/) I copied the files straight from Krayzie so I had the 8D5BCE250B35 folder, TitleImage.xbx, TitleMeta.xbx, and the datelinfo.xbx that I added so it would transfer through Action Replay.  Inside the 8D5BCE250B35 folder is the regular "Linux" profile.inf, SaveImage.xbx, and SaveMeta.xbx that I copied straight from Krayzie.

I knew that I had to have a habibi-signed xbe, so I took my default.xbe and signed it using ez-xbedump2.  I renamed the ouput file to install.xbe, as I thought that may be what was launched by the Run Linux profile.

In SC Save 1, (UDATA/21585554/), I made a 000000000000 folder, copied the TitleImage.xbx from Krayzie, copied the TitleMeta.xbx from Krayzie, and added the datelinfo.xbx.  Inside the 000000000000 folder was the following:

- boot.cfg (from Krayzie)
- bios.bin (from Krayzie)
- SaveImage.xbx (from Krayzie)
- SaveMeta.xbx (from Krayzie)
- install.xbe (habibi-signed)
- media folder
- Config.xml

I zipped the saves and they transfer through Action Replay fine.  I copy them to the Xbox hard drive just fine as well.  When I load up Splinter Cell, I see the profile, launch it, and all I get is an error 21.  So I'm close (I think).

I redo it by renaming install.xbe to unleashx.xbe (error 21)
I redo it by renaming unleashx.xbe to default.xbe (error 21)

Obviously, there's something I am missing here.  You guys know what it is.  I'm using an official MS Memory Card that has worked perfectly since day one, so it isn't corrupted saves.  Please notice, I don't know any coding or development or any background on how to even start at making an installer.  I'm not trying to make an installer, I am just a little curious as to how I would launch a homebrew application from a gamesave.  It could be useful for me if I needed something to run on an unmodded Xbox.  Thanks.
