Lastly, I'm wondering what this talk is about marriage between the eeprom and the hdd. I'm kinda nervous because at one point during my softmod I deleted my C: drive completely and copied over a friends moded C: drive.
Well you could get Slayers and use the stock C: files from there and put them on your drive... and all i know bout the marriage is that the hd is lock by a code [eeprom] from the mother board and therfore the hd has to be locked with the same eeprom as MB....

Yes your eeprom is on your mb and when you install a softmod the first thing you do is backup eeprom and ftp it to your pc...So if your current hd fails or you wont to put in a bigger hd you allready have the eeprom to lock the new hd with so the xbox can comunicate with it...if you dont have your eeprom and your hd fails you would be SOL unless you got a modchip Like if you just threw in a hard drive it wouldnt work cause it has to be locked .b4 the xbox can unlock it...

well if you see a file called hdkey.txt that is your eeprom in .txt so you can read it.
Also about the locking its like this..Your box is softmodded so if you get your eeprom and ftp it to your pc..Then get a unlock prog and stick your xbox drive in your pc and unlock it...Then stick it back in your box without relocking it..Your box wont be able to unlock it and it will give you an error screen that says error 5-6 not sure..and you cant play games....ive got a drive that i screwed up on and now it stuck locked...Thats why now i have my eeprom burnt onto disc with Xboxhdm so i cant make another hd unusable

I don't have a evolutionx dash installed, unless the eject softmod installer deluxe is evolutionX. I do however have xbmc installed, does it have a backup eprom utility somewhere? I also have UnleashX installed as a application, I'll look in it too.

Ok, I think I understand everything now. , except I don't understand why you say you have a hd that is unusable tho now. Couldn't you do like you said and just install it on your pc, use a utility to install a eprom and install it in the matching eprom xbox?
Cause i locked the hd using the .txt hd key and typed it in wrong and now that drive is lock and i have no clue what i typed in to lock it i know it wasnt the key i had written down i probably hit a wrong Letter or # and now its a paper weight...Thats whats nice about xboxhdm you put the eeprom file in a folder burn the disc and hd locking/unlocking is fool proof for me...

Was just reading in another form where several "softmod deluxe" users also needed to back up their eprom and didn't know how. Looks like you can do it within in configmagic. Gonna try, hope I don't break anything!
