Hi, first of all, wonderful site and thanks for all the great advice. I've softmodded 3 xboxes with harddrive upgrades and would have made a lot less mistakes if I had read up on it first. Saying that, here are my two issues, if anyone has any advice that would be great:
1) I attempted to softmod a revision 6 xbox. This was before I realized it was revision 6. The softmod did work great though, unfortunately I decided to take a step further and upgrade the hard drive to a 40gig. I used the Gamesave exploit route (splinter cell) to get the eprom and used an xbox linux cd to do the fatx formatting/locking for the new drive. Everything worked except I got the red powerlight and an error (forgive me I forgot to write down the error code.) Usually when anything like this happens I just use the same eprom code to unlock the harddrive and try another (I have a few spares laying around.) The big problem is this drive won't unlock. I believe the revision 6 xbox detected the extra f partition (since it was bigger then 10 gigs) and did something to make the drive unlockable. I stupidly tried it again with an 80gig hard drive making sure this was not just an issue with the particular hard drive and sure enough 80gig hard drive will not unlock. Now I don't mind loosing a 40gig but 2 drives is making me sweat. I've tried everything to unlock this drives from killdsk to windows diagnostic tools. If anyone knows a way for me to unlock these drives please let me know. I have since sold the revision 6 xbox and bought another.
2) The other question I had also involves an upgraded hard drive issue. I put a 160gig generic drive in my newest xbox and everything loads properly except the display on the tv is all messed up like its refreshing at an incorrect rate. During the boot sequence the xbox animation appears fine. I can see EvoX through all the haze so I know it works. I even reformated the drive and attempted it again and same problem. I switched back to the softmodded factory 10gig and it loads fine. Could this be an issue with the particular drive?
Thanks a lot guys,
Mauv
