Eeprom Change But Not Hdd Code?
« on: October 18, 2005, 07:18:00 PM »

OK, I posted this in the Newbie Chat forum and haven't gotten a reply, so I thought I'd post it here.

QUOTE
OK, I wanted to unban my Xbox, so I bought a new EEPROM off of Zodiak. I forgot to specify the need for a 1.6 EEPROM, so I ended up with a 1.0, which I converted to 1.6 with LiveInfo. I flashed it to my Xbox with ConfigMagic. The upgrade seemed to take and all the info shown in ConfigMagic for the currently flashed EEPROM changed to match the new one.

My problem is this: In ConfigMagic, the HDD Unlock Key changed to match the unlock key in the new EEPROM; however my Xbox doesn't want to unlock my new, 160G HDD or the stock 10G HDD unless I use XHDM to lock it with the code from my old EEPROM. Other than that, it works fine, with the M$ Dash booting as it would on a retail box.

I can live with this, but I have three questions.
1. Will I get re-banned if the HDD is different, all shown EEPROM data differs from the old one, but the key to unlock my HDD, while not shown on the Xbox, is the same as my old one?
2.Can M$ detect this slight discrepancy in the data?
3.More importantly, is there a way to fix this?

This was all done on a softmodded box, and my stock HDD still works and is softmodded. TIA! :D

Any thoughts on this? I REALLY need to know if I'll be re-banned going on with my box as it is described above. It doesn't seem to me like it will matter, but I want confirmation.

Did you use the new drive on live and get banned?  If so, then you will need a new HD as well, as that one has been logged by MS.

No, I haven't even tried to connect to Live yet. I didn't want to, as something seems to be screwy with the EEPROM. My Xbox spits out an Error 6 (and I know what that means) unless I put a HDD in it that is locked with the code from my old EEPROM.

Are you running NKPatcher with your softmod? Cuz this sounds like a virtual eeprom issue if it still only unlocks with the old eeprom info.... could be wrong but might be worth checking  out.

I was, I disabled it, I flashed it, and now my box is a paperweight. Seems that it was the wrong version, even though I checked it. Now I get no pic, no sound, DVD won't eject, and removal of drives doesn't cause a FRAG. Any help, even though this should be in another topic?
