Help Me Recover A Broke Box
« on: October 02, 2005, 12:34:00 PM »

One of my friends gave me a broke Xbox. Dont know much about it except that it was softmodded. When I turn it on it goes past the flubber then freezes. I tried to ftp it to my comp so I could redo or at least get the EEPROM but no luck. So any ideas on the problem (seems obviously HDD) and how to fix it.

No Error Code I know the screen you mean but not that.

Its a black screen (with a little fuzz at the top that sort of looks like and old frozen nintendo game)

Pretty screwed then, try and get a loan of a solderless modchip if you can and try it, but to be honest with you it sounds like something seriously wrong in the hardware.

@arronspy - It freezes after the xbox logo w/ the m$ symbol underneath right?  If so, you could try hotswapping and rebuilding the hdd stock and see if that helps.

@maincolt - you need to resign the xbe after you do anything to it.  If this is the stock xboxdash.xbe, then if you make any changes in it you can't resign it since we don't have the m$ key. I would load the gamesave and replace the bad file and see if it works after that.
