Every time you mod an X-Box, whoever it's for, you need to be saving the EEPROM. It's the first law of modding. With that in hand, you can recover from a vast number of mistakes. There's no excuse for not backing it up, and little sympathy will be offered to those who forget. I managed to do a backup my first time modding.

so would this work???? Unplug the IDE cable from the xbox dvdrom drive. Remove the xbox HD, and undo the cables from their little plastic holders, so there is plenty of slack in both the power and IDE cables. But leave the HD hooked up to the xbox (power and IDE).

Now, turn on your xbox, and it will boot to error 16 (i think thats the error anyway - unimportant). At this point your xbox HD is unlocked. Boot your pc up with an xboxhdm boot disc. At the screen where it says to push a key to continue, carefully unplug the xbox IDE cable from the xbox HD, and plug the secondary IDE cable from the computer into the xbox HD. LEAVE the xbox power cable plugged into the xbox HD. Now, push a key to continue booting xboxhdm, and your hotswap is complete.,,,,,,,,,,,,,

1.whats so hard about a hot swap and could someone gave me some poniters????
2. do i have to plug the hdd IDE cable back into xbox after i'm done to lock the hdd, or can i just shut them down together(my pc and xbox does it matter)????
3.whats the danger???? can i kill my self lol
4.what not to do ?????

What I would do to fix this problem is to install a modchip in his xbox and then use a boot disk to fix what he deleted or move, ect.

If you boot up his xbox and swap it with another xbox hard drive, unlocked of course. Then power down his xbox and boot it back up, if the timing is correct you should be able to lock the other drive and boot to the M$ dashboard. From there i would boot in to the soft mod and back up the epprom.
