Softmod Cannot Open Ms Dash
« on: September 08, 2005, 03:15:00 PM »

Hi, I completed a softmod on a xbox. Everything worked perfectly. I can play games on hdd & through dvd drive. Emulators work & everything else does also. The thing that is weird is that the time & Date is incorrect. I try to open the MS Dash to change, but it doesn't go to it. It just says "Please wait" & then brings back evox. I have tried everything i know like deleting the cache folder on e drive. Is there anything else i should try? thanks for the help!

if you cannot get m$ dash properly setup, then you can use unleashx to set it.

That is because you are still running a non-retail BIOS.  Happens to me too.  Fortunatley, I dont need the MS Dash at all.

You guys didn't setup the softmod correctly. I softmod boxes all the time and they can all boot to m$ dash if necessary.

You first create a backup of your original dash, then you apply the softmod.
Afterwards, you install a hacked dashboard (unleashX, EvoX, etc....).
Finally, you PATCH your m$ dash (a ppf file patches it and renames it for you).

Once complete, you can load your m$ dash whenever you wish.

Bit more details??? What SoftMod are you running, are you using PBL or NKPATCHER?

If PBL or Meetoo/Frosted and all the other variants of PBL... switch to NKPATCHER and setup a shadowc, you can then copy the retails C: drive onto the shadow, no patching, hex editing etc required.

yes, that will patch your dash to run. I'm guessing you're using an older softmod such as UXE. After you patch your m$ dash, go into your evox.ini/xml (never used evox) and change the path to point correctly to the name/location of your m$ dash e.g E\Dashboards\m$ dash\default.xbe  or whatever.

Yeah, I use UXE, simply because it is the easiest for me, and the first one I can across that works with a 1.6 box without a lot of messing around.  It works really well, and since I don't really care about the MS stuff, it;s fine for me.  But it might come in handy sometime...  Thanks.

Right, I tried Patching my MS Dash, but I did it manually, seeing as I don't want any of it in my C drive.  I messed with config.xml to get it to maove and rename everything properly to E\Dashboars\MS Dash\ and then patched msdash.xbe on my PC using ppf-o-matic 3 using the 5960 fonts patch.  I tried loading and all I get is error 21.  I even tried patching the .xbe with the UnleashX file explorer.  It's always error 21.

i've had that happen before. Try taking your ORIGINAL ms dash from your backup of C: and patch it again, then send it to your box and erase the one you had on there.

Sounds like you used the Peace of shit SID. If i were you just undo the softmod after you get your MS dash back up. Then makesure you can boot to your MS dash then Use Krayzies Ndure. The best ever. And guess what? it doesnt have to format your C. I hate SID. It gets rid of critical files. Now who the hell makes an Installer that formats C?

I used the WaffleZoneTools installer.  It does delete C, but not format it.  I find it a lot easier, because I only have one dash or anything on there at one time.  Helps cut down on the confusion.  Also, how would it make a difference when it comes to running the MS Dash as an app?  Does it have to be in C?

I think I'll just leave it for now, and use one of Krayzie's installers when I upgrade my HDD.
