Error 6, Stock Hdd, Wrong Eeprom Flashed. Help!
« on: August 31, 2005, 08:53:00 PM »

So, I have a stock hdd, no mod attempts.  I have the locking key and the eeprom, but somehow before, a blank eeprom with the wrong key got flashed when rebuilding the c partition.  So now, whenever I lock the hdd, I enter in the key correctly but a bunch of zeros follow in the key, (which is from the crap eeprom that got flashed).  And now that it does that, for some reason, xbox hdm won't read from the eeprom folder on the CD or the floppy.  Unless somehow its casesensitive.  Help please.  Or is my xbox a doorstop?

try making another xboxhdm disc without the eeprom and save your 'crap eeprom' to a floppy disc. now when xboxhdm looks for an eeprom and can't find it, put in your floppy with the crap eeprom so it can unlock from that. how in the world did you manage to unlock your HDD with the eeprom on the disc if its blank?

Xboxhdm wont falsh your eeprom, it will lock your drive with the wrong key but that's about it. Use the XBOXSCENE master password to unlock.

I saw in some other post you were using LiveInfo Beta 2 to get locking passwords... If your using a 1.6 Xbox you need the Beta 3 release.

so your trying to lock it with the same stuff you used to unlock it? am i correct in this so far?  Your best bet is not to use the manual password enter.
ensure you have the same eeprom from your xbox mobo on your hdm disc, and boot it up with the drive in it, type 3 when it boots, and select boot linux with locking/unlocking and then type " lockhd -a " the -a searchs the cd for the eeprom and do it automatically
hope this helps

but the thing is, when i unlock it using HDUNLOCK, i can just type in the key without all the zeros and it unlocks successfully.  Your forgetting I'm trying to lock the hdd.  I don't know how this all happened.

Well, I would use that the correct eeprom, except for the fact that it can't find it on the cd or the floppy, which is a load of crap.  Cause its in the eeprom folder of the cd named "eeprom.bin"  (without quotes) and on the floppy, its named "eeprom.bin" (without quotes again)  and the directory path would be A:\eeprom.bin  and it still can't seem to find it and use it to lock it.

well, after that same attempt, i turned off the pc, turned off the xbox, then plugged in the xbox ide cable and booted up xbox, still error 6.  AND I USED THE FRIGGIN AUTO GENERATED EEPROM KEY!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you guys think that this would WORK and would be EASIER:

Hard drive Y-Splitter Adapter Cable (found here)
Atleast one music track on the working Xbox.

Ok getting started I will be calling the broken Xbox
Xbox 1 and the working xbox Xbox 2,
First you need to open both xboxes. After you get them
apart take the hard drive out of Xbox 1 (the broken
one remember) and place it upside down on the Xbox 2's
dvd rom drive. Next unplug the power cable going to
Xbox 2's hard drive. Then take your Y-Splitter and
connect it to both xbox hard drives and power cable
you unpluged. Now plug your power and AV cables into
the xbox and boot it without a game in. When you get
to the Menu go into your music and play a song for
about 5 secs (or the whole song it is up to you).
After that back all the way back to your menu and
unplug the IDE cable (NOT the power cable) from your
hard drive and plug it into your Xbox 1's hard drive
and try to go into a menu. It will freeze on you but
this is ok. Wait until it gives you the Error Code 21.
When Error Code 21 comes up power off the xbox, unplug
the Xbox 1's hard drive and put it back into Xbox 1.
Reconnect all the cable to Xbox 1's hard drive and
boot it. It should boot fine. Now power off and put
both Xboxes back together.

What do you think?  The hdd slitter cable is only $2.49!  SHould i try doing that method?

was your backed up eeprom on the cd? or just on the floppy?
it is much simpler on the cd just use the lockhd -a.
is this your upgraded drive? or your stock?

did you flash the EEPROM in the XBOX with blank one ?
how many chr is the key you are talking about 32 or 40

32 = EEPROM key
40 = HDD password

dude

I flashed the blank one, but as i hear, its impossible to flash an eeprom... BUT, i do have the real one (I found it at last) and reburned the CD-r but now it cant seem to find it, even though its in the eeprom folder and named "eeprom.bin".  And i have tried every password i wrote down from the beginning.  The hd key, the hd password, the hd serial.  None of em work, and whenever I try to lock using the CORRECT eeprom from floppy, it still gives me error 6.  And this is a stock hdd!  Although, i used error 12 before to unlock it temporarily then it would lock itself, and then i used error 12 again, and disabled the auto lock thingy so i could rebuild the c parition without it auto locking, and when i went to lock it, i got error 6 from all three passes (Hd key, hd serial, hd pass)..   Any ideas?
