My (work In Progress) Softmoding Tutorial!
« on: August 30, 2005, 09:29:00 PM »

Its located here http://softmod.home.comcast.net/
Yes, i know, long name, and slow server (damn you comcast!)

but for now i am forced to use that (unless someone wants to donate around 10mb of server space (most it will be once complete) for me to put it on.

I just have the main page, and transfering the exploit done. I will do the installing softmod, upgrading HDD, and references (xbins, etc) later.

It has step by step instructions, and almost a picture for every step!

the upgrading HDD is incomplete, I will change it to be exactly step by step, as im not positive if it is now (wrote it off of what i remember).

Any comments about the complete parts? Whats good, whats bad and needs changing?
And you could also say if you are willing to donate 10mb of fast server space for it.

If I can ever fix my website XGuides I'll let you host it there. Currently something borked and it causes an error when I logon.

You should include links to both the European and US versions of AR.  Also, put in a link to the Xbox-Linux tutorial for making your own USB adapter, and a link to the USB drive compatability list (also on the Xbox-Linux site).

why the heck does the edit button disappear after a while!?!?
I just put how to get to xbins. I am done for today, and will put how to install the mod later. It is very easy though, and not too hard for people to figure out, they could also check some other tutorial.

Yeah, the edit function is limited to 15 minutes. You can only edit your posts within 15 minutes.

However, on topic:

looks good so far. you might want to change the desing into a more friendly one (if the tut is going to stay on that site). Apart from that, it looks good.

EDIT (within 15 minutes tongue.gif ):

one thing I'd suggest:

the SC savegame consists of 2 savegames. Maybe you should add a line in the "transfering softmod", stating this. It should also state, that BOTH saves have to be transfered and can also be transfered individualy. Just wanted to suggest that.

can you transfer them both at the same time though?

desing? whats that? do you mean design? whats wrong with the design? i like my design...
Well, I dont know if this is the permanent place. I dont have a server or anything, so if i cant find anyone to host i,t i guess it will be its place.

im open to any suggestions! if anyone wants to have me add something, just say it!

Will this be a good guide for people who dont know anything? I mean, it is step by step with pictures.

hmmm funny how I did do a successful splinter cell sm but never tried putting them both in the same usb memory key and then transferring them.  Don't they have the same folder names?  Also you might wanna list on your tut. that you are not only limited to using usb memory sticks as digi-cam-Compact flash cards work.  I just did a transfer with my Olympus digicam and it worked fine with an additional step of formatting it through your cam's os after a uninstall+format through comp.

here's the big listyou can copy and paste for all compatible CF, usb memory sticks used.  Credits to the dude who went through the trouble to making the list.  What a nice guy biggrin.gif.

i said compatible usb thumbdrive or any usb mass storage device, so you dont have to use only a usb thumb drive. Also, if you click the word compatible, it takes you to an even larger list on xbox-linux.com

but, ok, i changed it to compatible USB Mass Storage Device and then in paranthesis there is some examples

its not too hard to find it, but fine, next update ill put the path to it

edit: ok updated it now instead of waiting till when i was going to do it, because xboxhdm is located in the wrong place. They put it under xbox, and not PC... dont know why... but where it says you need
xboxhdm - xbins
i added the path to it in paranthesis

i might be able to finnish this weekend! but it would be easier if someone can just send me some text to paste in. Its not very complicated, so i dont think it needs pictures, but if there is that woul be better. I just dont know if i will be able to for sure, and i want to get this done...
