The Register revealed today some new details about the Xbox 360.
QUOTE
MS plans to make its console backwards compatible with current Xbox games; however, if your favourite title is an obscure one that failed to make the best-seller lists, it will be far down the priority list for MS. Stephen McGill, head of Xbox marketing, revealed that the company was planning to make the best-selling Xbox games - of which he claimed there are hundreds - compatible with the console, and work backwards down the list. He admitted, however, that there may be some Xbox games that simply won't work with the Xbox 360.
But think about it: since all 3 current savegame exploitable games have been converted to platinium hits (007 Agent Under Fire, Splinter Cell and MechAssault), those games will continue to work on the 360. And since those exploits doesn't occurs with a bug from the Xbox but directly from the game DVD code (correct me if I'm wrong), unless MS makes a very specific filter for those game within the 360's hardware, the same gamesave exploits might probably still continue to work on it.
If this is true, softmods will still continue to work on the 360. Although the permanent softmod probably won't be the same as today, some other hacker-made XBE like EvoX might continue to work, so it sure already opens the possibility of softmods on the 360s.
For now on we can only hope and wait 'till the 360 comes out, but we should get our memory cards ready when this day will come!
