Halo 2's Autoupdate 4
« on: July 19, 2005, 10:36:00 PM »

Ok... I'm kinda worried about this. I have Krayzie's softmod on my box and switched it off (just for the mean time).

QUOTE
Q: Does this mean softmods are bannable too?

A: Yes. Softmods – that is, a modification made to your content without using a hardware-modified Xbox – are bannable. Delete them.

Now that there's going to be a fourth autoupdate (sorry but I'm still a newb at this), will they be able to detect the softmod once it's turned off or it has been cold booted? Or the question should be: will they be able to detect the softmod at all?

Allthough I am not qualified (cause I don't work for Bungie), I really doubt that they can detect a softmod (unless you don't coldboot). I think they can only scan the Halo2 content and ban you if you have modified content.

on a side note: can they actualy ban you from live, or only from Halo2 online play if you have modded savegames etc.?

I'll tell you what: If I find another Live-trial (or if someone sends me his), I'll put my old HD into my box and get on live (softmoded). I'll tell you if I get banned. I just have to get my buddies Halo2 disc.

Thanks guy. I'm really limited in time though. I'm leaving for training in a week and a half. I hope that you'll have your report done. smile.gif

Thanks a lot guys! I'm feeling pretty relieved though. Once I find out that they can't detect the softmod, then I'll reinstall the softmod. Hehe.

Umm... by the way, krayzie said something about deleting the exploit. I already did so. I also deleted all those halo 2 modified gamertags... but I doubt that I need those back now that I know how to toggle off the secondary part of the emblem. (Haha! I just found out recently, cuz I thought they were modded. I also thought that the modders used these! But really, everytime I got modded, they were either using the toggled emblems, so thus making me thing that they were modders and I was right).

Anyway, yeah. I'm waiting to hear from your reports of what's going to happen with the softmod in your box. Thanks!

Allright, I got good news and bad news.

good news: I'll get my buddie's Halo2 tomorrow (thursday, 12.00 pm CEST) to test it.

bad news: However, the trial code I have is expired on 31.03.2005, so I can't use that one (without paying something). I'd need a trial code.

I have the auto update... just got it today. Everything seems fine, however, I have a feeling that this update will rid softmods... I just have this weird feeling. But yeah, if you guys know anything else about this update, feel free to talk about it.

Anyone brave enough to try coldbooting and playing online with a softmodded Xbox?

Please let me know what happens. Thanks.

Yeah, is anyone willing to coldboot with their softmodded box and go online?

This will truly and greatly help your softmodding community! smile.gif

i would try for you guys but my account is already at risk of getting banned since i signed up for live on my old xbox, unsubscribed, and signed up again on an upgraded HDD. So even if i get banned, we're not gonna be sure if its the softmod or the upgraded HDD and same eeprom tongue.gif. Anyone wanna give me a fresh eeprom to try it on?

This new update for HALO 2 is not a problem for
people that have modded their boxs, as long as
they don't have unsigned or modded content
inside their HALO 2 LIVE folders TDATA/UDATA
on the E: drive, and if found by Bungie they
only ban you from MATCHMAKING, not from
arrange games with your buddy list, or from
any other XBOX LIVE games. This is NOT a
EEPROM ban, it is just a Bungie Matchmaking
GameID ban!

can anyone backup garyopa? and if so what do softmodders have to do to not get matchmaking bans?  just disable and update or fully uninstall?

You just need to make sure your HALO 2 folders on E: drive
the hexed-numbered ones inside TDATA & UDATA, only
contain original HALO 2 content, nothing added by FTP, etc.

Easy way, is to go into MS dashboard, and delete the whole
HALO 2 gamesave tree, and then re-download the maps and
updates from the LIVE server.

I have done this before the installation of the new update. However, have you tried this yourself? Can anyone say that they've gone on Halo 2 with a softmodded xbox--COLDBOOTED just to play--and not get banned from Matchmaking? I mean, I understood what they said in their Autoupdate 4 story.

QUOTE
Q: Does this mean softmods are bannable too?

A: Yes. Softmods – that is, a modification made to your content without using a hardware-modified Xbox – are bannable. Delete them.

Moreover...

Q: What will happen to a player if his or her Xbox contains modded content?

A: You will be banned if you are detected playing our game with modified Halo 2 content.  Your ban will be from matchmaking, it will be permanent, and there will be no appeal process.

...

Q: Have you included any solutions to the cheating caused by players using modded Xbox systems and modded content?

A: Yes.

Since it has an answer to "yes" in the third question of this quote, then they have done something to actually stop players using modded xboxes--including softmods. This is what worries all of us.

Oh yeah, it said somewhere in this forum that M$ has tried to get rid of the "Dual Boot" in xboxes but making an autoupdate. What if this autoupdate tries to get rid of softmods (as is says on the first question in the quote)?

Halo 2 sucks cuase people ALREADY bypassed the update ON THE RELESE DATE. Just 30 mins after it was relesed people already bypassed it. So halo 2 sucks cuase every match=cheaters. I mod on xbc on halo 1 now  cuase halo 1 you have to be creative cuase halo 2 is just so stupid.
