Hotswap Question
« on: July 18, 2005, 05:00:00 AM »

I'm trying to hotswap an xbox that gives the "error call manufacturer screen..." so I can't use a gamesave because it doesn't boot any discs. I know exactly whats wrong with it and it won't boot because xboxdash.xbe isn't on the drive. I have the key and the pass but hdunlock, unlockx, nothing works. So I go to hotswap it and everything seems to be going fine, windows boots up fine says it detected new hardware in one of those annoying system tray balloons, and before i run hdd_driver the xbox shuts off. I tried it over a couple times but the same thing keeps happening. Has anyone ever run into this problem, or heard of it? Any Ideas? Thanks.

ok, starting off, I have personally done this, hotswapping, hdd_driver and let me just tell you... It sucks eggs.  Hdd driver is faulty, even tho i released a more stable version, it still is.  And windows detecting the xbox is not the best thing either because it slows your computer wayyyyyyyy dowwwwwnn.   The best thing that is out there, xboxhdm.  You can repartion, repair, rebuild, the whole works.  And it will actually run correctly.  Look for an xboxhdm tutorial.

Well see my problem isn't with hdd_driver, i haven't gotten far enough to use it before the xbox shuts off. But thanks for the tip, I'll try hdm and post back if I'm still having trouble. Thanks again.

ok i burnt the xboxhdm disc with UDE but I've come across a new problem. When the cd boots after swap it doesn't mounts my hard drive as like /dev/hdc instead of /dev/hda and so when I type UDE it says "This script assumes /dev/hda is the xbox drive... yada yada yada" so consequently is says it couldn't find the hard drive. Is there a way to edit the script so that it uses /dev/hdc or auto detects it? Any suggestions apprecciated.

Ok scratch that. I was using the wrong IDE cable. But now when it boots it says drive status error during startup. Does that just mean the driive didn't unlock?
