Suggestions Please???

I am installing a New 160GB Hard Drive in an XBOX with no mod-chip.  This will be my first time doing this without a chip, and don't really wanna mess it up.  I know there are a couple ways to do this, so wanted to get suggestions...

The XBOX is currently soft-modded with AUF:UDE2.  I have a backup of the eeprom.

I will be using Krayzies Installer once the new hard drive is in place.

Option 1:

1>  Use XBOXHDM to prepare the HDD with my PC.
-I CAN do this, but I would REALLY RATHER not have to open my computer.

or

Option 2:

2>  Use my Hard-Modded XBOX [xecuter 2.6] to boot to slayers
-I CAN do this, but I would REALLY RATHER not have to open my XBOX

It looks like either option is going to require opening up one of my own boxes, and I guess the XBOX will be easier to open and re-close than the PC...but is there anything that Slayers WONT do that XBOXHDM will???

Also, I'm a little confused about how to 'Flash' the NEW hard drive with the old eeprom?  I have a backup of the eeprom [from E:\backup_linux\eeprom.bin] on my PC.  How will I get this eeprom back over to the XBOX?  FTP thru Slayers?  If so, where does it go?

One last thing...

I noticed that buried DEEP within E:\TDATA or E:\UDATA there were some 'EvoX' files?  This may be the gamesave exploit data from the old UDE2 install...will copying this info BACK over to the NEW hard drive cause any problems?  I would like to be able to restore the game saves and music...

Thanks so much for your opinions people!

You dont wanna open or pc or your hardmodded box.

So use chimps tools to do it.

You need to lock the new hd with a locking code that is generated with your xbox's eeprom. No flashing required.

i dont know what chimps tools is.. cant help you there

YOu can backup your eeprom like so...

http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/eeprom-change.php

or here

http://xbox-scene.com/articles/exploit-hd-...modded-xbox.php

There is a part of this that explains backing it up.  No you will need to do more than jsut back up your hard drive but if you do it that way you wont have to do the soft mod all over.. in theory...  ASs long as your softmod support lba48 (large hD)

But this will tell you what program to use to transer your eeprom. Etc Etc.    Man that is alot of shit ot do when you could just buy a doux2    But whatever floats your boat man

Rock on

i checked this out...looks like a great utility.  ill definately have to try that.  im a bit skeptical about the whole idea of 'hot swapping' on someone elses XBOX, and i also dont have a copy of mech assault...tho that would be fairly easy to come by.

has anyone else used chimps successfully?  has anyone had any probs with it?

Lots of people have used it with no probs, I've used it a couple of time myself, theres special instructions to follow on a v1.6 xbox, but other than that its neat.

But Im a xboxhdm man, I have an external drive bay, and a custom script that allows me to setup xbox hd's on my usb2 bay, then lock the drive with their eeprom and its ready, plain and simple  :P

I'm considering trying this...may be worth it for the $8 used Mech Assault game.

I'm going to read more, and make a decision.

ok...so here we go.  I dont have all the tools to use chimps method yet, so I am going to use my hard-modded xbox this time around.  so let me make sure I have this right...

put the new hard drive in my hard-modded xbox IN PLACE of my hard drive with the slayers disk in the drive...reboot...do full format/restore with slayers...ftp and copy backup of original eeprom to [where?] the hard drive...use config magic to unlock, and relock using the old eeprom...replace my hard drive, and install the new hard drive in the other xbox...both should boot as usual now right?

I know I may need to run the soft-mod on the new hdd again, but thats fine...as long as the xbox will boot to it???

any suggestions?  thanks!

First get teh eeprom backup off of your box before you take the orig hard drive out.  Move it to your pc where you an find it.

Then use evox, full format rebuild, you dont need to use config magic to lock your hd because you can do that with your chipped box in Slayers after you toss the eeprom on there.

Theoretically should boot at this point but my suggestion is to do a full back up of your original hd onto your pc (before you start), once you have your HD rebuild jsut transfer it all back over to it's orignal directories.  , now you don't have to screw with the softmod again, you wont loose your game saves and if there was music on the hard drive it will still be there.
