Not Sure What To Do Now...
« on: July 13, 2005, 03:04:00 PM »

I've been trying to restore my xbox to retail so that I can re-install krayzie's softmod, but I've been having a lot of trouble. I burned a copy of Slayers to a cd-rw, ran krayzie's 'restore xbox' option, followed the instructions, but the restore did not work, and I'm left with an empty C:\. Because of that, the installer was unable to re-install evox.

I had everything backed up so, I just put it back on and it boots msdash again. I'm thinking my xbox didn't read the slayer disc at all, and is there any way I can check that? If I put the disc in my xbox should it boot anything? because mine just says it cannot read the CD. Also, is there any way I can set up my C:\ drive properly for krayzie's install to work again, without using slayers? Because when I try to re-install I just get a 'rename' error.

Thanks,

if you did a little research, you would know that slayers is for hardmodded xboxes. hardmod meaning a modchip or flashed tsop. slayers installs evox on the C drive without a bios loader because a bios is already flashed to the modchip or tsop. just know that for your future reference. and yes something similar to evox should boot up when you put in evox [what were you doing with the whole evox and re-install thing?]

what you should have done instead of burning the slayers disc is to explore the contents of the slayers iso with a program like xiso and look around for the retail C drive files. After you get those files, you FTP them to your xbox's C drive to return it to a stock state. Now coldboot an exploitable game, load your exploit and choose to install your softmod. It'll tell you that there are folders already there from your previous installation so just choose to overwrite those files

ok I did something similar. I replaced the C:\ drive with the backup that was made from my original install of evox. I ran krayzie's install again, and it successfully installed. The only strange thing is that from Evox, I can't switch to msdash, and when I ftp to my xbox my C: drive is empty. However, when I go back to the mechassault exploit, and ftp, theres stuff in my C:\. Is there a way to get around this or should I start all over again, and use the files from the slayers iso?

Also, I'm not sure if this matters but in my evox dash, it says I have an unknown bios.

thanks

When you ftp into the c: and it's empty, that's the empty shadow c: protecting the exploit files on the real c:
Go ahead and place the retail MS dash files on the empty c:.

I must really suck at this stuff because I'm a little confused. Should I place the original backup in the empty C while in evox? I just dont understand why I can't boot msdash.

Never mind guys, I got it all working again. Wow what a day it's been.
I just removed mod, and re-installed it again.

Thanks for the help
