Error 21 On Unpatched Ma Save

i'm using krazies ma save, i get an error 21 before the softmods evox install screen pops up. i've done 5 or 6 softmods with the same gamesave and disc before, but for some reason these 2 boxes are all failed attempts. what am i doing wrong? once again i am using an unpatched Mech Assault(not the platinum version)

either you are not copying the save to the hd or your action replay card is corrupting the save.

well i'm using a 3rd party memory card. damn. i guess i'll buy an xbox mem card.
