Modding Made Easy Tutorials:
Gamesave Softmod

Disclaimer: First off, this is a series of tutorials, Modding Made Easy Tutorials.  And, I am in no way, responsible for anything that could or may happen to your xbox while softmodding.  This is not to scare you, but I don’t want to be liable.

XBOX LIVE USERS: This is compatible with xbox live, as long as you go back to the M$ Dashboard using Evox (Piece of Cake).  Even if your accidentally banned, just find and unbanned eeprom, and replace it, and your good to go!

If you choose to continue, follow the rest of the tutorial.

Part 1:
Things you will need for this to happen:

1. Action Replay 8mb – No if, ands, or buts.  If you don’t have it get it.  All you need is the 8mb package.  Around $30.00 at any Gamestop.

2. Mechassault, or 007:Agent Under Fire.  There are certain discs that work for this softmod.  The Mechassault version can be found on the shiny side of the disc, near the hole in the center. They are laser engraved, like size 6pt font around the hole.  007:AUF is found on the writing on the title of the disc.  At the end of the white paragraph at the bottom under the EA games logo.  Any Platinum Hits will NOT work… in exception of 007: AUF.  The working versions are:
Mechassault – MS02301L ;  MS 02301L L0 02 ;
007: AUF – 1448517 ; and all other versions, that ARE NOT platinum hits.

3. One of these files, depending on which game you will use:
Krayzie_MA_UXE_Installer_Dutch-English_v2.8  (Mechassault)
Krayzie_007_UXE_Installer_Dutch-English_v2.8   (007:AUF)
PM me on for some HINTS on where to find these if your having trouble.

4. Computer with FTP access and some handy tools (below)

5. FlashFXP  (FTP tool)

6. An Xbox system link cable OR cat5 RJ-45 cables with a router or hub.

7. 2 hrs. of free time.

Part 2
Step 1 – Now that you have all of this “Junk” you can start on the softmodding.

Step 2 – That Krayzie UXE installer, that will be our little friend.  Hopefully its save on your desktop or an easy to find folder.

Step 3 – Open up Action Replay.  Drag the Krayzie UXE installer into the first column under the memory card.  It will begin to copy.  After its done, proceed to step 4.
Step 4 – Delete each save under Mechassault or 007:AUF.

Step 5 – Copy the Action Replay save to your harddrive under the corresponding game (AUF or Mechassault)  NOTE:  If the save is ran off the memory card, you wont fix your xbox without some soldering!

Step 6 – Run Mechassault or AUF. If you are running Mechassault, go to 6A.  If you are running AUF go to 6B.

6A – After running MA, go to campaign, then select Run Linux.  If you did this right, the Run Linux controls should match the controls of MechWarrior.
6B – Go to the Load saved game screen and hit Run Linux.

Step 7 – The Evox Dash has booted up and there are prompts on the screen that guide you through the rest of the way.  (Tests and eeprom stuff)  Go through that.  Once it tells you its finished and you need to reboot, back up your EEPROM.bin file.  Instructions below on that.

Step 8 – Backing up your eeprom using FTP.  Your computer should be directly connected to your xbox via an xbox system link cable, or through a router or hub.  Open FlashFXP on the PC, and go to Quick Connect at the top (Lightning symbol).  Then under address type in the IP address on the xbox.  You can find this by going into system settings on Evox.  Under IP, change it to “192.168.1.2” (without quotations).  Then under FlashFXP again, type in under the address “192.168.1.2” (without quotations, of course).  Then the username is “xbox” and the password is “xbox”  (all without quotations).  Make sure to leave the evox dash on while FTP’ing.  Hit connect and there you are.

Step 9 – Okay soldier, now that you have access, backup that eeprom.  Go to E:\dashboard\backup\eeprom.bin and copy that to a save place on your pc, even burn it to a CD-R to be safe.  Now you can add applications to emulators to games on your Hard drive or even Trainers.  To add any of this stuff, go into the E:\ folder and there they are.

Step 10 – Where may I find these cool programs and trainers???  You can find them in the usual places or Xbins.  I recommend ComplexTools to copy games to your HDD, to rename your xbox, and a file organizer.  The list is endless with mods.

Where did you get the idea that you can go live through the linked msdash from evox? I also think you missed the rest of the installers options by reloading the save again. And Exactly why do you need 2 hours? The whole process should take no longer then 10 minutes

thats not what i meant, i meant it could be uninstalled and then played on live, and i never said anything about reloading the save again.  If your a newb and have trouble understanding all this, and you have to troubleshoot, it would take 2 hrs.  i didnt want to underestimate time.

One last thing tho.... I think your autoinstaller is the best thing that has happened in this community since it started.  I forget which .bin file it is, but can I edit your installer using XBtools to change my front LED color to blue?  I think its one of the Xbedash files...

and wth are you talking about needing an AR? I did my softmod without an AR. I used a selfmade (!) xbox-to-usb converter to plug in my SMC reader/writer as the second controler. The original ms dash then formated my SMC to FatX and I just used the AR software (available to download for free) to transfer the saves to my SMC.

oh, and if you got a buddy with a modded xbox, you can use any memory unit.

and finaly: no, you can't just set your LED to blue, as there is no blue LED in the xbox. you would have to replace any of those 3 LEDs (green, orange, red) with a blue one.

thnx, i make it orange then.  I'm just describing the tutorial in the way i did it.  I find that AR happens to be the easiest since its user-friendly.  There are tons of other ways, i know.   Thanks tho for the feedback.

Lol blakemanf, look at the name of the installers, then look at the person who replied to your post.
When done with that task, look at who you called a "newb".

Here's something I found usefull also. You can actually copy whatever game you use for the gamesave to your xbox (using complex tools)not included) and access the game from the "Games on HD" to load up the gamesave and original installation menu. If you're lazy like me it's just perfect.

BTW - Krayzie - you kick ass!  B)

Uh...

If you have the gamesave on the xbox that's modified, you can just run the xbe.  No game required.

even more easier would be adding a line to the dash to auto run the saves xbe. for instance for evox and 007 that would be something like

Maybe an idea for upcoming versions....

Nice...I'll go do that after this game finishes copying...

I've been trying for hours to find the EEE installer...ya know, all the usual places...nowhere to be found. I hope my luck improves. I might even get a little inventive and try to come up with an alternative. :)

Sorry to double post but I couldn't find an edit button...

as a side note...it's actually:

It took me a few times of editing. I noticed the option showed red so I used boxplorer to find the correct path. smile.gif
