Problem With Mech Assault Installation
« on: June 14, 2005, 09:55:00 PM »

Hey,

I'm having difficulties with soft-modding my v1.0 Xbox. I got it when it first came out so its the older version I'm assuming. I save the Krazie's older version of the Mech Assault Installation because I have the smaller Action Replay memory card. After I save it to my Xbox's hard drive I start up the game then go the profile Run Linux and it says Unable to open. I've tried reinstalling all the files and everything and it still will not work.  I know their is a newer version of Krazie's Mech Assault but I cannot fit it on my memory stick. Is there any way to fix this? I've tried using the Splinter Cell method but I can't get the Linux Installer into the Splinter Cell menu of profiles. :\ Could anyone please me? Thanks.

Use the splinter cell one then. Get the lastest version (2.8). Its been made simplier in 2.8, there are two saves, you transfer them both over, one at a time because they both can't fit on an 8mb memory card. Then make sure you delete (or move) any other splinter cell save games from the xbox hard drive, remove any download content for it as well just to make sure. Now you should have a splinter cell save, and a linux profile.

Start up splinter cell, go to start game, then load "linux", click on checkpoints. Bingo, should come up with a menu, so on that menu backup your eeprom, then install the softmod. You should get another menu, do the first two options (virtual eeprom and virtual c), then the final option, select a dash (i prefer unleashx, its up to you) and select your fonts.

When selecting your fonts its not that important which one you go for unless you plan on upgrading the hard drive, 06 is all space above 8gig goes onto a F partition, 67 is all space above 8gig and below 137gig goes on F, the rest on a G partition.

On v2.7, I couldn't get the Linux Installer into the Splinter Cell section of my HD. It kept popping up at the time like it was its own game. So you say if I download the v2.8 then transfer the files over 1 by 1 to my HD then it should work? Its coming up as not a valid xbox save when I extract the WinRAR folder?

I'm getting the same problem....

If extracted it says its not an xbox save and if not, it doesn't fit.

To fix the problem, I went into the archive file to the following directory:

UDATA/4d530017/62D648EBF155/files

Removed the file called dvdx.rar since it is only to watch dvd movies. I will be downloading dvdx anyway and can ftp the app after softmodding.

Worked fine!

I removed the dvdx.rar file, and I have Action Reply, I dragged the file back into the memory card part of Action Reply and still says, 'invald gamesave'

zerolimits you said u have an older xbox 1.0 make sure your dasboard is at least 4920 you can check this in the xbox system settings. If not you can use any xbox live enabled game to update it.

I fixed the problem. I assume that me having an old Xbox prevented me from using the MA installer so I just used the Splinter Cell one and it worked fine. Thanks anyways though.
