I'm Looking For The Best Way To Upgrade A Hd
« on: May 20, 2005, 10:58:00 AM »

Okay, here goes... I've looked around in the tuts, searched, and I've come to one conclusion: I still have no Idea how I want to go about upgrading the hd on my lil bro's xb.

background:
I have a softmodded 1.4 w/ a 160 gig hd. I have already destroyed traces on a previous mobo with the x2.3b lite+. I got the chip to work for a limited time on my mobo, but now it misses the d0 or lpc depending. When realigning wasn't working,  I said screw it, and went with ma exp, then UXE softmod.

what I'm looking to do:
I want to upgrade his hd from the piddley 10 gig to a  piddley 40 gig hd with as little complication as necessarry. If possible, I'd like to create a boot disc that will do the hd format/lock as easily as possible--yes I do realize I need to lock after ftp copy.

I'm moderately tech savvy, but I do have ADD, so the less involved the better. Anyways, I'm just looking for advice on where to go from here, as well as the best course of action--the less smartass comments the better. Thanks

Thanks for the highly helpful tidbit...... dry.gif Anyways, I'm getting an invalid argument from the xboxhdm 1.9 boot disc when I try to execute xbtool. I only want to start from scratch, and don't feel like going through the cloning process. I just want a simple fatx partitioner w/ format. I can dump this crap(c:, e:)  on myself. xboxhdm is NOT simple when it DOESN'T WORK--I like what linux does, but I hate navigating it--not to mention the 18 pages of reading attatched to xboxhdm which still explained nothing to me on possible problems.

cool.gif Xato, that was the best advice I got! Worked like a charm! Sorry about being a dick, xbhdm just about made me lose my mind. Chimps took 10 min. Thanks.

Yeah it does or it would be pointless tongue.gif

But honestly, xboxhdm can be real simple:

If it doesn't find the C and E drive files on a rebuild?
Type: "xbrowser" for a nice GUI that lets you manage the files!

1st time users might get scared off by errors, but apart from that it works great after having tried it (and no hotswap needed)
