if it doesn't work your xbox probably won't boot to your ms dashboard anymore. you will be able to run retail games but you will not be able to access your dashboard, so you won't be able to put a working installer on your box.

then you can only open it or chip it.

I have already opened it, and don't care about the warrentee.

I am downloading the waffletools off of another site now, and hopefully I can use that.

Ok...

I ftp'd to my box and looked for the E:\backup and E:\Backup_linux

there is only a E:\Backup.

but inside that folder, there is

modded folder
unmodded folder
PPF folder.

both of them contain the dash.xbe, but I just wanted to make sure this was ok.

On the menu, it said the dir was E:\backup and E:\Backup_linux
this is why I am confused.

don't know waffletools, only from hearsay but  whatever you do - before you do it, FTP the backup to your PC. check for a file named "eeprom.bin" or similar. as long as you have that on your PC you can fix your xbox...
