Which Itools To Use With A 1.6b
« Reply #15 on: December 14, 2004, 08:17:00 AM »

Wow...days of confusion and now suddenly the light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks for all of the help guys.

So if the timing problem only occurs during start up, does that mean that there's only a difference between 1.6 and 1.6b if you're using a modchip? Softmodding....cheaper AND more compatible! (well they'd just have to use m8+ I guess) But now why were so many people talking about timing issues and new "1.6b safe" bioses in the gamesave/exploit section? That's what threw me for a loop. Oh well, Thanks again.

thats exactly right
on the people who have modchips are using the m8+ because with a modchip it boost as soon as you press the power button thats where the old bioses screw up , but in softmods you xbox actually loads the MS bios first so there will be no timing issues as the ms bios has the right ram timing in it bios table, and once the ram and the machine is up and running then you xbox loads the hacked bios. it works 100%

Hope that helps

Actually your presented with various options after the game save hack ahs been loaded and your at the Ltools menu. One of the options is EPROM backup. So first you would do the backup, then you would as haris2887 said, ftp in and pull the EPROM backup that was just made AND the entire C: drive just to be safe to your pc hdd then  choose the actual install of UDE1/UDE2 (I’m speaking of the 1.7.5 of course) then choose metoo..ect, then choose which bios you want to install (x2 or evox depending on which ver. Xbox your working on) then let it roll. If it’s a 1.5 down you will see the actual Linux code execute on your screen otherwise if it’s a 1.6/1.6b you will see a jumble of colors on the screen (looking like a scrambled TV station). Wait for the light on the Xbox eject to start blinking green and then reboot the Xbox without a disk in the tray and you should see Evolution X boot up. Oh., one more thing I’ve noticed with most installations that I’ve done using the 1.7.5, As soon as you finish choosing the options and/or your screen looks jumbled with various colors…unplug your controller(s) from the box while the linux code is executed. I’ve had several Xboxes freeze at the end of instillation simply because the controllers were plugged in. Why? Who knows..but they have. At least this is my experience from quite a few boxes. So just to be safe, unplug them while the code runs. Other than that you should be good.
Hopefully this clears up any confusion with the install at least in my experiences.

Thanks again guys and I’ll post my findings after the 1.6b install.

a VERY CLEAR reply HypoLuxa, when you say choose which bios you want to install... i'm guessing by choosing evox it is compatiable with 1.6? Thanks alot!

cool.gif. (Although if you have an older xbox, the x2 should work fine and then you don't have to worry about if it's compatible or not so if you don't know what you're doing you should just use x2 I guess?)

I think we actually came to the realization earlier that since the xbox boots off of the ms bios before getting taken over by the mod, 1.6 and 1.6b aren't actually any different to us (only modchippers). So any softmod good for a 1.6 is good for a 1.6b.

Now for the IP question...open up the evox.ini file, find ip, change it to whatever, save it. If you want it to be installed that way, change it in the installer. If you want to change it for the gamesave hack, find it there and change it. Basically just find it wherever you think it's applicable and change it. Only problem is that they have to be rezipped with wingz or something (has to be a linux compatible compressed file). If you feel like doing that, go for it....perhaps it's not worth your effort....whatever floats your boat.

I'm coming fresh off of 2 exams and running on about 4 hours of sleep so feel free to correct any lapses of mine...
