auto installer for what?? and how does it kinda work??

This might help you out a bit http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=227528 .So if I use ltools_MA_v1.7.5 it should work fine? I've read that with the 1.6b you need to use m8plus_16. I just wasent sure if this was the default evox ver. with this package. this is one thing I read on a post and my question is basicly the same exept about the ltools_MA_v1.7.5 conserning the 1.6b.

"There was originally the problem with ram with the 1.6b's (which was fixed) and also i had read something about rc1 being buggy and not working or something (could have just been somebody botching the install). I also wasn't sure if ltools 1.8 was using the m8plus bios which was supposed to be fixed for the 1.6b.

Basically to cut a long story short, if i install uxe with ltools 1.8 rc1 through mechassault (using pbl metoo and evoxm8)...will it work with a 1.6b as is? or do i need to change the bios in ltools to m8plus? or do something else?"

any clue's?

Thanks guys....

I think you're referring to my post...and I haven't actually found out which bios is in ltools 1.8 and haven't actually tried it out on my new box (manufact 10/04). I will when I go home though and then I'll have some more solid (hopefully good) news about it.

As far as the comment about not having evox as a dashboard....doesn't it come with the dashboard package that you need to put in along with 1.8? I thought it came with MXM as standard and then gave you a bunch of other options you could use as long as you put in the dashboard package.

thanks again and drop a line if you have any info

as an afterthought...what's the worst that could happen if something goes wrong with a softmod? I've never messed up to the point that I couldn't just uninstall things and start over. I also know how to reformat xbox drives and copy files to them and such...is there anything that reformatting a hdd and copying the original stock stuff back on it couldn't fix?

ouch that sucks....I'm hoping I don't have a similar fate with the 1.6b and 1.8rc1.

Basically my question though was this...if something were to go terribly wrong while modding it, what is the extent of the damage that could happen.

Say it won't boot at all and I can't get any games to run and so gamesaves are obviously out of the question...if I backed up the eeprom and the entire hard drive (which I am certainly planning on doing), could I use xboxhdm to reformat the drive and copy all of the stock stuff back onto it and start over? Or is it possible to do anything to other hardware? I was under the impression that softmodding only really changed your hard drive, thus making your hard drive "like new" again would fix any wrong doing on your part...but I'm not exactly sure.

Chances are things will go alright and all of this worrying about "what if" will be in vain....but hey, it's not a bad idea to have a backup plan if things don't work out, right?

Yep, what u just said is exactly right cmiz, that's just how u would recover...Just remember to ftp into ur box soon as u get to the itools screen and save everything...U also need the eeprom.bin so 1st thing to do is run "Backup" from the itools menu BEFORE u install UXE....Once all that is done, u will have to reboot ur xbox and start the exploit over, then go ahead with the install...Long as u have ur C Drive and eeprom.bin, xboxhdm will save ur life.

Just use Ltools 1.8 if u have mechassault...If not, get the UXE complete package at the usual place and gain ftp access to ur xbox and send the contents of the 71 folder to ur c drive.

I've been calling it LTools...it's just that I haven't been capitalizing it so it comes out as ltools (actually an L on the front, not an I). But yeah, when I first tried finding it I spent the longest time scouring google and xbox-scene and wondering why ITools was coming up with nothing. oops!

But anyways, I'm glad that I could use xboxhdm to recover from massive failure. I'm pretty good with xboxhdm (and even better at the massive failure!) The only problem now is that my new xbox is at home and I'm still off at school with my old school xbox (I love v1.1, so easy to mod). Though since I'm right in the middle of finals season it's probably better off that way...

As for the 1.6 PAL....I know very little about that since I'm a generic NTSC-er but if you use uxe (great tut here: http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=285877 ) it should work. There's also a UXE complete package floating around somewhere that supposedly is very good too or you could always try out LTools 1.8 which (we hope) would automatically install the uxe exploit for you, and that should work on a 1.6 PAL.

Great to see so much attention on this thread...happy modding

Ok…back to the original question that I started this post about in the first place..heh. Will ltools_MA_v1.7.5 work properly on a 1.6b? I ask because I have one that’s worked flawlessly on 20+ boxes so far that I have installed already on a xbox mem card and I really don’t want to replace it with the ltools_MA_v1.8.rc1 unless I have too. Why fix something unless its broken, right. The thing is, I have yet to try it on a 1.6b but I’m going to have to here soon..SO..I just wanted to make sure the 1.7.5 would work or see what the major difference in the two builds are. So again, one more time just for clarification, will the 1.7.5 work on a NTSC 1.6b?
Thanks again guys….

This may not be incredibly helpful but I figured I'd throw my 2 cents in on the issue...

UDE 2 works with the 1.6 so I would assume (but am by no means positive) that the same exploit would work with the 1.6b...I think the main problem is that we don't know for sure which bioses are featured in the releases and unless Ldots or somebody else with a little more experience in actually modding the 1.6b shows up, I think the best option (if you're feeling brave) would be to try it, and if things aren't working quite right, you could ftp into the xbox with a gamesave (or if things went really bad you'd have to pull out the hd and unlock it etc) and replace the bios with the new m8+ and give that a spin. If you're not feeling brave however, I'm gonna give it a try with Ltools 1.8 when I get home and post how things go, but again....that's not gonna be for a little while.

I'm kinda suprised that nobody else has chirped in with experiences in modding 1.6b's....we can't possibly be the first to do this and the questions we're asking seem fairly mundane. Oh well. Post with any info

did you guys modify anything from the ltools package like bios or anything or did just put it stright on you memory card and booted the game
when i did mine i didnt modify anything because the bios should not have any timing issues because you are using the ms bios at boot which is where the timing issues occour but the bios is loaded after the ms bios so the normal m8 bios should work fine with 1.6b
