Aladdin Xt -eeprom-newbie Needs Help
« on: December 26, 2004, 01:34:00 PM »

I am a newbie to this and have read a lot of posts but I am confused.

In my excitement in exploring my newly acquired xbox with 120gb hd, Aladdin XT Live mod chip ,v1.6, Evox slayers v 2.6 I hit the "restore eeprom form backup" button in Avalaunch and now have a box which dosen't boot.
Switch on with fast press - green led then blank
Switch on with 2 sec press - red leds.
Switch on with 5 sec press - flashing red leds.

I have read enough to know I have done something to my eeprom and was hoping that someone could help me to restore my box back to life ( as I have not used it yet!!). I have ordered a programmer for the Aladdin but I am not sure what or how I may use it to flash the Aladdin MD or indeed whether this will solve my problems. I think I have to embed an eeprom in a file and flash the mod chip with it but I don't know if my eeprom was backed up and by restoring in Avalaunch it restored a bad file or if I don't have a backup. I read somewhere that if there are not red leds on the no chip boot then all is not lost??

Do I have to remove my Modchip to use it with the programer?

Any help given would be very much appreciated as I fear I may have wasted a lot of money on this box.

Cheers

You've put yourself in a very shitty situation in that you will need to embed an eeprom image and the programmer you just ordered most likely is not set up to flash the 020A chip in your Aladdin XT.  Maybe you have an 020 in the XT and it may be easier but you'll still need a valid 1.6 eeprom image. A little knowlege is a dangerous thing and how is it possible it's always the slayer's install disk users finding themselves in way over their heads? Also your hard drive was most likely locked to that eeprom that's lost in space so hope you weren't to attached to it. Sounds like most likely the back up files are in a backup dir in C since obviously you aren't the installer of the original system. Maybe take it back to where you got it and have them fix it. Noobs and eeproms don't mix but to an experienced installer this is simple fix.

Yep I agree with all you say. I think it a bit poor though that an option as devastating as the restore eeprom in Avalaunch should have a warning attached before it executes to help noobs like me.

If my supplier can't help can you or anyone else recommend someone who can try to restore it for me?.

Cheers
