Just edit your evox.ini file to DHCP.  That will get your box's IP address, so you won't have to worry about it.

If you have a router(im guessing you do), just log onto your router(usually http://192.168.1.1 or something close to that.  Look through the options and you should be able to see all the devices connected to the network.  You xbox will probably be the unnamed one.

Edit:  Unless you have static ip your address will not appear when its not in the network.  Also you must turn on your xbox after connecting it to the network so your router gives it an ip address.

Id suggest just buying a 50-100 foot cable.  You can get them for about $10.

When you load EvoX, and it's connected to your router, it'll give you the Xbox's IP in the upper left hand corner. If it isn't there, it's in System Utils --> Settings. You can change it there, too.

You can use a crossover cable from your computer to the xbox.

well if your computer ip address is 0.0.0.1, then your xbox will be the next number usually 0.0.0.2.  obviously your ip address will not be zeros, its only an example.

Ok say your computer is plugged into the first port, that would make it something like 192.168.1.100, then plug your xbox into the second port, that would make it 192.168.1.101.
