How Effective Is Softmodding?

Quite a number of users are happy softmodding their Xboxes as long as they do them right and have a good exploit. smile.gif

To softmod, you have to exploit a hole in the code.

I just softmodded my box and I couldn't be happier.

I'm a total XBOX n00b.  I'm an advanced self-taught PC user, (certainly no expert) which helped.

PS - it's funny that you asked how effective softmodding is by visiting an exploit forum, then asked what an exploit was ... it seems you have figured it out all on your own wink.gif

Yes you can upgrade your drive.  And there is a tutorial to go on live with UDE and UDE2.  Try using the search button up top and read first.  Read as many tutorials as possible.

Yeah, I use a soft modded xbox. I was going to get a chip, but I was too scared to open the xbox. Now I have grown out of that, and I am getting a chip........... Eventually. But, exploits will do all.

Why is a chip better?
I think its a personal  preference thing.

Mind you that I do have a x2.3 lite in my xbox but I have installed chips,  done tsop flashes, and softmods for people.

I also used to feel that a chip was better when I didnt understand how the ude and uxe softmod worked and I didnt understand how to upgrade a hsrd drive without slayers or editing evox

Then i installed one

I ran into a customer with a new 1.6 that wanted a larger hd for his xbox and I found out that the ltools mod did everything that I required to fulfill all his needs of playing his backups and using a larger hd

well it is personal pferefereance for a part of it, but a chip does allow you to do things that you cant when you softmod a box. it is also the only way to help yourself out when you have a mjor error in most cases. its also not that hard to get working (take us about 1/2 hour to get a box fully modded and runnign everything perfectly, even when installing a new hdd)

It took me 5 minutes to get my soft mod up and working and 10 to create and install a new hard drive. All it comes down to, is what you are comfortable with doing.  biggrin.gif

What does the chip allow you to do that the softmod cant?
(other than allow you to boot up from multiple bioses by using a switch and turning the mod off with a switch.)

If you have a ude or uxe exploit if you insert an original game and turn the xbox off and then restart with the game inserted you can still use xbox live since its booting off the normal internal bios.

With Tsop flashes if you inccorrectly flash your internal bios the only way to fix is with a modchip (either to restore the original bios or to bypass it all together)
Usually the only things can cause this is a power outage while installing or if someone incorrectly sizes the bios to be installed.

With softmods you never touch your original onboard bios as long as you have everything to that will allow you to load up a game save installed on your hd you can easily recover from a incorrect install by booting up with the exploitable game.

Also after you install the exploit if you backup your c:,e:, and eeprom and save them your computer you can always make a xboxhdm bootdisk and restore even stick in a larger drive anytime you choose.by attcahing to your pc can get you out of any problem even if the old drive dies. (this same procedure also works if you have a modchip too)

Granted one has to do reading to understand with the exploit before they install it.
99.9% of any problem can be eliminated by people backing up their c,e, and eeprom folders (this should also be done when you install a chip also )

I cant say other than personal preference I dont see one real big advantage of having the chip over the softmod, but I would also like to add I have never had any problems from my xecuter 2.3 lite and I am very happy with it.

Never had a problem with any of my softmods i have done.  Quick and easy mod, as long as PEOPLE READ FIRST.  Sorry, but it pisses me off when people just try modding and haven't read anything.
