Xbox Hangs On Ms Loading Screen

Alright, I have never had any problems with softmodding a box before but this is the end all.  The box hangs on the MS load screen, I cannot get into the MS dash or anything.  It will boot a game disc directly but I have no way of FTPing or anything.   Am I fucked?  I have been messing with this thing for hours, usually ver 1.0 are the easiest to do but this thing is a bastard.  I have been reading tuts till I am blue in the face.  I need to get this done asap.  Please someone help.
