Pal 1.6 Xbox Modding Question

Just ordered an Xbox(first one i have bought)
I'm guessing it will be a new 1.6 version
When it arives i will want to mod it with either a PAL splinter Cell or Pal OO7
Anyway from what i have read i will need to change the region setting from 2 to 1
So after changing this setting can i still mod the xbox with a pal splinter/007 game or would i need a NTSC game to mod it?
