Aladdin Advance Xt (?) Diagram Help
« Reply #15 on: November 17, 2004, 08:00:00 PM »

It's your lucky day fellas,... I just had a customer bring a v1.6 over, so I took the opportunity to try a couple of different installs using the AladdinXT chip. First I installed it so that the chip was always enabled, then I installed it with the BT & L1 lines connected. Took some pics and I'll try and whip together a quick page with all the pics and such. I'll let you guys know as soon as I've got it up...

Hey robertjuric

Looks like we bought chips from the same guy ( wup ).  You said you grounded the L frame on the xbox motherboard, and BT from the mod chip.  Will this config cause the chip to be "always on"?  This is what I'm looking to do for my installs.

Where did you ground the two wires?

From what I understand, these chips from wup that read "Aladdin Advance V1.0-v1.6" on the back should be installed in this manner:

1) install the pin header
2) rebuild the lpc
3) ground the L frame ( on the xbox motherboard )
4) ground the BT connection from the chip

This should result in an "always on" mod chip, if I follow.  Can this chip be flashed via evox in this mode?  Also, I assume any system ground ( like a screw hole ) is ok as a ground point...

Yup, I got my chip from Wup. For the BT and L1, I just twisted the 2 together, and then soldered them to the chasis. It seemed pretty simple this way.

This is the always on setup. If you want to add a modchip disable switch, put a SPST switch between the BT and L1 and the ground.

Yes, the chips do say Aladdin Advance v1.0-v1.6 on the back.

You have the right install procedure. I'm pretty sure you can use EvoX to flash the chips. I however use XFlash v2, which is also how Wup suggests you flash the chips.

Okay,... it's late and I whipped this together really quick from the pics I took tonight. Forgive the simplicity, but I'll try and make it a little fancier when I've got some time. Off to snooze...

For an "always on" install:

Well, I've done some deep diving into the old posts, and There's no doubt that the BT connection from the Aladdin XT needs to be grounded.  Also, the L frame ( also known as the "D0" on the ver 1.6 xboxes ) needs to be grounded, and can be done so during the LPC rebuild.

Where you've confused me, is when you mentioned the L1 being twisted together with BT and then connecting these two to chasiss ground.  I have not heard of tying L1 to anything, and that it should be left unconnected.  Did you mean to say the L Frame ( D0 ), instead of L1?

Also, I've been looking at a way to clean up the extra wires that you've got running around in your install.  Ground the L frame to the screw hole just above the d0 wire in the Smartxx diagram.  And since we have the pin header on our chips from wup, we can install a small jumper wire as circled in black:

This would give us a clean install with an easy hot swapable capability.

If I'm missing something about the L1 connection, please correct me.  I appriciate the help!

Lmao EvilRyu!!!

Great minds think alike.

I literally made my post as you did.

Thanks.  What your tutorial illustrates, is right on the money with what I was visualizing.  I hope a mod sees this tut, and makes it a sticky.  Half of the "help me, aladdin problem" threads would evaporate.

Come on down to Regina and I'll buy you a

Wow.. thanks alot everybody!

Seems like that tutorial could be a Sticky and we could cut the "Aladdin help!!!!" threads with about 50% =)

Anyways, evilryu, your site doesnt seem to handle so much data-transfers so if you could zip your site up, and i will mirror-host it..

I'm working on some more illustrations, but maybe they're not needed anymore?

Raptor17: Just put a LFrame from motherboard and BT from chip together and solder those to +side of a SPST switch, and another wire from ground (Screwhole on motherboard) to -side of the switch and there it is! =)

Single Pole, Single Throw-switch is actually all you need..

This is just theory, anyone can tell me if i'm right or wrong?

For a live version, I'm not sure..  On those i've installed i've only grounded D0 for "always on" install...

Wait till someone else answers this..

Guys, I'm sorry, I don't know what I was thinking. You don't need to connect L1. L1 is for use with the front panel switch if you want to install it that. I must have have been getting the Ls mixed up in LFrame an L1.

Correct Procedure:
1. Install pin header
2. Rebuild LPC (theSmartXX diagram is REALLY good)
3. Ground LFrame (on mobo) and BT (on chip)

Firebaal, now my question to you is, what is the purpose of the jumper wire from 6 to BT? With my install, besides the LPC rebuild, I only have 2 wires which are the grounds for BT and LFrame.

I'm not sure how good of a ground you can get with the screw holes. People were having issues with them in the 12v fan mod. They discovered the best ground comes from soldering the the chassis.

Nice switch diagram aladdin64!!

Once you install the chip and boot the xbox, you should see the EvoX logo in the top left. Then you are able to boot from an EvolutionX Boot Disk.

Hey RJ,

The purpose of the short jumper wire from 6 to BT is an easy clean ground for BT.  The screw hole tab ( the one close to the L frame ) is a great ground!  If you examine the pcb of the xbox motherboard, you can see that it's infact the main system ground ( kinda why you screw it down to the chasiss in the first place ).

You really threw me for a loop with that talk of the L1.  lol.

When Evil Ryu's page is back up, you'll see what I mean.  It's a super clean install method.
