well the only thing i can say is you should have FTP you dash backup into the xbox
C:\ drive when you had the chance instead of messing with the HDD on the PC
(you were there with your post of MXM dash pics)

why don't you try hddlock from a floppy with just xbox hdd connected only to the pc no cd rom or any other hdd....
and use the password from the hdd.txt file (40 chr one not the 32 chr key!)
make sure the form is:
0123456789ABCDEF0123456789ABCDEF01234567

the HDD should unfreeze after it is power cycled
are you sure it is unlocked try it in xbox if you get error 5 then it's unlocked
and yes a new HDD should work fine if it,s not the pc's fault
more then likely it's not...

yeah, when it boots up i get an "05" error.

where can i get a floppy version of hdlock? from the usual place? if so, i already have the 40 chr written down, so i would just hook the hd up, disconnect all HD's and CD/DVD drives, boot up from the floppy and go from there?

i'm pretty sure i understand you correctly xman, but if what i have written above is incorrect, please let me know.

edit
i found where to make the floppy in xboxhdm, but is there anything i need to put on to the floppy, like my eeprom or the hdd.txt file?

xman, when you get back from work, i could use your help one more time!

i shut the computer down and disconnected my dvd drive, cdrw drive, and both of my computer hard drives. i  hooked up power and ata cable into the xbox HD, put the floppy in the drive and booted up. once i got to the A prompt, i typed "lockhd -a" and i received a message "password not founf." and it brought me back to the A prompt. so i typed in "atapwd" and it brought me to a screen where it said it was detecting drives. after about 5 seconds, it brought up a screen and had my xbox HD at the top. i hit enter after selecting the drive (the only drive in the list) and i had 2 options:

Security Command Set
S.M.A.R.T Command Set

i have no idea what to select at this point. i did go into both menus and wrote down everything that was in them, hoping somebody can help me out so i can get my xbox up and running again.

Under the "Security Command Set" were the following options:
set master password
set user password
Unlock with master password
unlock with user password
disable with master password
disable with user password
freeze lock
erase  prepare
erase unit

under the "S.M.A.R.T Command Set" were the following options:
enable operations
disable operations
return status
read attributes
enable attributes autosave
disable attributes autosave
execute short selftest
execute long selftest
read selftest log
read error log
read log directory

here's my problem: i need to lock my xbox hard drive, that's it. I'm not sure what i should do???

lockhd -a is if the eeprom is in the floppy
if the eeprom isnt there use lockhd -p (password here without perenthesies)

PS: you dont need to borrow a computer, you just need to use it for about 10 minutes

His computer froze the lock, and he cant find a way to unfreeze it.

Is there any windows application that can do locking? if there is, you can set the windows to turn off the hard drive then turn it back on and try locking it
