Help Me With My Problem And I Give You $10
« on: August 25, 2004, 08:45:00 PM »

yeah, I've been softmodding my xbox since late July (off and on) and i still don't have it completed. i'm not really good with this stuff, so i'm enlisting help. you help me with my problems, get UDE installed, and a few emulators up and running, and I'll paypal you 10 U.S dollars for the help.

here's a little history so you know what's going on:

first i used gouki's MA installer and was able to ftp into my xbox. i stopped at the Bert and Ernie font install because the instructions were confusing and incorrect. then somebody turned me on to UDE. so i downloaded 1.7.5 from the usual place and transfered it to my xbox. here's where things took a turn for the worst.

i hit install UDE, then selected UDE, then i chose evox, and then i can't remember what i chose for a pbl, but it was whatever option "A" (green) was. After that the screen went blank, there was some white text at the top of my tv screen and after a second the screen went blank, and the led on the front of the xbox went orange. i waited for about 20 seconds, then the system shut off. i turned it back on and it took me right back to MA...

i tried to do the UDE again, but now i get an error:
ERROR (line1): (callscript) "ActionScript file failed execution"

so i thought the gouki evox files that were on the system were maybe fudging up the UDE install. so i loaded up MA game save so i could FTP into my xbox to remove the files...
well, my HD is totally messed up. the "i" folder is gone, when i click on folders "g" or "f" (and "g" is a new folder, possibly the "i" folder renamed) i get a message saying directory not found. my "z" folder is empty (my backup of "z" has 394 files in it what is my next step? if i have FTP access is it safe to just replace everything in each folder with the backup i have?

so know you know a little about my problem, here's the fine print. i'm looking for a hands-holding person to help me out. PMing me and linking me to a tut DOES NOT constitute the 10 dollar reward. i'm looking for personal help from a person that can explain step by step how to get my xbox's HD back to the backup i have on my PC's HD, get rid of any gouki files, install UDE and a few emulators. i usually don't have problems like this, as i'm fairly good with computers. i guess i don't have what you'd call the "green thumb" laugh.gif

so that's it! first person to dedicate themselves to helping me gets the 10 bucks once everything is done!!

PM me if you have any questions or comments.

Thanks!!

uesc ~

try putting your xbox back to the virgin state if you have a backup of those files.  Only your C and E folders need to be restored.  E is optional, but who knows what is in there now, so best bet is to restore it back.

Once that is done, try ldots MA UDE2 installer again - should work...also - make sure you have the live update installed from MA (you'll need update.xbe file in the xodash directory to be there).

Let me know how you make out.

i know this is gonna sound stupid, but can i just delete the folders i have on my xbox and then replace them with the folders from my PC?? (i just dragged and dropped all of the folders from my xbox to my pc to back it up) and i do have a update.xbe file in my xodash directory, it's about 2.3megs in size and i'm pretty sure it's been there ever since i started this.

thanks for the help

the game save folder on the xbox is probably messed up
from the failed install
you should delete it and reinstall it from mem card
if you are using a HDTV A/V pack then thatÂ’s why it failed
(happened to me)

xman, i do have a HDTV pack!

so, i should delete the MA game save oof of my xbox and try again? cool, i'll do that after i replace my folders.

just to make sure tho, you're saying i can delete (for example) the "C"  folder from the xbox while i'm FTP'd into it, and replace it with the backup i have on my PC's hard drive and this won't cause any problems when i restart, and i can do this to every folder on the xbox???

thanks for helping out a noob laugh.gif

yes you can, i think. Have some more people confirm it before you try. But it does just load the stuff from C, which will be replaced back to the originals...

If you have the full c and e drives, and also have your eeprom on your computer, you can use xboxhdm and rebuild your hard drive. (eeprom should be in e:/backup_linux I think, use )This tutorial by LostkoRn on how to upgrade hard drive (just rebuild in your case, same procedure) That is IF you have the C and E drives AND eeprom, if you dont have the eeprom, your drive can not be locked! (locking is required, your eeprom stores the password used on the lock, which is what your xbox needs to be able to use that drive)
If you do not have eeprom.bin, run Ltools again and put backup, and the eeprom.bin should be generated!

mrp, i have the eeprom. i'm not sure about using xboxhdm. dont you need to take you hard drive out and hook it up to your computer? i have a torx screwdriver, but i don't have a small enough bit for the HD (my fan want out in my xbox about 3 weeks ago and i replaced it )

can anybody else confirm the folder method i spoke about above? i'd really like to get a few more people to confirm it before i try it (i don't have an extra xbox)

sleep time!  sleeping.gif  it's 12:30am in Missouri. i'll check the replies when i get up in the morning.

Thanks to all who have helped so far!!  beerchug.gif

yes you do need to connect the hard drive to the computer. But you can just leave it in the xbox, while the xbox is open and have the cables come in and plug into the hd, it doesnt have to be IN your computer.

Oh, and on your computer, in the backup of your e drive, rename your old UDATA folder (or get it out of there) and put your latest UDATA from your xbox into it, so you dont loose game saves!

guess its my time to sleep. Goodnight!

ok, my F and G drives are missing!! in my backup on the HD i don't have a G drive, so i can only assume that my I drive has been renamed? i read through that xboxhdm stuff and i'm confused. i don't think my xbox's HD is really messed up, my c drive is the same as my backup, i don't see any changed files. the only problem i have is my I drive is gone, and i have a new drive called G and my F and G drives are missing??

here's a pic of the FTP page:

and here's the error i get when i look at the drives in the XMX UDE info menu:

is there any other way to get my F and G (or I, i guess) drives back to normal?

F drive is ONLY if you have upgraded your hard drive with one bigger then 8gb (or 10gb, not sure) DONT WORRY IF YOU HAVENT UPGRADED! that is where all the space over 8bg is stored, you can put games you ripped, and movies you transfered, and anything you want in there. I dont know what the G drive is though, i dont have one, just dont worry. You only need your c and e drives, put THOSE in your xboxhdm "linux" folder. and your eeprom in your xboxhdm "linux" folder, dont worrry about f and g

PS: wouldnt IMing each other be easier? do you have AIM or MSN? (preferrably MSN, but AIM is ok)

hey uesc ~

if you have ftp access to your xbox, you don't really need to use the xboxhdm util, you need to open your xbox and do a hotswap to make that work, although it is a way you can go (if needed later).  I've done it a few times, it's not too bad. You don't have to remove the HD - just pull the cable from it.

But, I would just stick with the ftp, you know it, and it's easy.

You can just clear and copy your C and E and restore from your PC from your backup.  I've done that and it works ok - the xbox doesn't seem to lock files in use from what I can tell (like Windows).  Try it, worse case if it doesn't work, you can go the xboxhdm route and I can help you with that if needed.

It's probably a good idea to clear the E drive and restore from backup if you applied the HDTV thing - or just clear it manually.

Then re-apply the ldots UDE MA save and it should work fine.

Let me know!

Mrp04 helped me out , but we got stuck on the part on xboxhdm where you lock the HD. my HD for some reason would not lock. the error i received was the hard drive was frozen and i could not change the security settings. i have a pretty crappy IBM, and the BIOS sucks on it, so i could not change the BIOS so my computer would not auto detect the HD.

i'm stuck right now and looking for an expert to help me out! if anybody knows anything about locking hard drives, please post in here!!

Thanks!

You won't see your F and G drives while in a gamesave. remember, a gamesave is still running the retail bios, which does not support lba48. once you get everything installed, and running from Evox M8 or X2 4981, your drives will be there, just how you left them.
