This is a quick note to all the newbs like me out there trying to get softmods up and running.  While I'm pretty sure my kernel won't take kindly to the MA exploit anyway, I'd like to note that there are THREE versions of Mech Assault floating around out there, not the two I previously thought:

1.) Original -- you need this
2.) "Game of the Year" -- the disc looks EXACTLY like the original, the box may be different, but the way to tell is to look at the number in laser-etching on the back of the disc.  Per the tuts at www.xbox-linux.org (thanks guys!), my disc (MS02308L) is the newer, BAD one.  If you don't know about this when you go to the store, you could be out about fifteen bucks (like me).
3.) Platinum -- says "Platinum Edition" in big, silver print on both box and disc.  Avoid, but you probably knew that already.

Lucky for me, I had been planning on getting MA to play, and it seems that it's a bit tough to do the exploit if you actually plan on keeping MA savegames lying around.  So... I for one got Splinter Cell (which, as I understand it, has exploits that work on my kernel) but you can save yourself the grief and make sure you have an ORIGINAL disc.  It would be nice if this were spelled out clearly in tuts and/or exploit READMEs.  If I'm out of line, just ignore me  sad.gif

I am having a bit of trouble with the MA linux program (just the small 2mb basic linux)

I have 4 xboxs (well not all mine) im trying to boot this small linux distro in order to flash the TSOPs however, on one of the xboxs (unknown version)
Dash 4920
Kernal 5101

when i run the linux program via mech assault the xbox crashes and displays the your xbox needs service with the error code 21, This however does not happen on any of the other xboxs.

Any Ideas?

i look on the forums and it said i should downgrade my dashboard

D: 5960

I dont want to install evox or anything, i just want to downgrade my xbox so i can use the mordens audio hack.

i DO have an action replay and i CAN ftp into my xbox

is there any easy way to downgrade the dashboard w/o installing a new evox or anything

Please reply soon

You're misunderstanding something here.
The audio hack REQUIRES evox (or some other dash). That's the whole point. You boot to the MS dash (4920), and execute the audio hack TO GET TO EVOX.
If you just want ftp access, a simple MechAssault gamesave hack will do the trick

Perhaps if you clarified exactly what you want your xbox to do, we could help. Your xbox is fully exploitable as is

To downgrade:
Get Slayers 2.5 (look around). (Or get the c:\ from a friend's box that you know is 4920.)
Extract the dashboard files. THey are 4920.
Ftp into your xbox. Delete everything on c:\ Put the dash you got from Slayers on c:\.
Be sure everything transfered. Reboot your xbox. Check your dash version. Install Morden's

Be careful about the delete part though, I'm sure he DID NOT mean EVERYTHING.

* I'd recommend you download everything off of C:\ and keep it as a backup just incase.

Other than that, yes, delete everything, actually, lol...

Apparently I have the "Game Of The Year" MA too, but I tried a Splinter Cell one two and its not working, I rented 007: AUF and that game didnt want to work at all (literally, guess it was rented out to much). Im fucking pissed, nothing is working for me.

Hey Ghengis, is their any particular Splinter Cell file that is needed? I found the ntsc raincoat one. Luckly I have the original Splinter Cell.. smile.gif
