Your not screwed at all.  The only thing your going to have to do is learn how to make an xbox iso with craxtion or another program like it.  Burn it with nero though cause it is awesome.  Now when you get those figured out go to "the usuall places" and find a hdd installer, superfro's is nice.  Make an iso of it.  Plop in a brand new hard drive then put your iso in the drive and format the new drive and there you go.  You may have to fiddle around with the dashboard stuff, can't remember it's been so long

actually psyantist, it doesn't work like that. The xbox will only boot a non-original disc without a hard drive if it has a modchip. Software hacks run off the hard drive so no the disc would not load. Neither would the xbox boot an unlocked hard drive, his eeprom is the only way he could create a new hard drive and without that, then yes he is screwed.

Thanks for the clarification.  I find myself putting softmod and tsop as the same thing.  Sorry for the confusion.  So then can he tsop his and flash it still?

To TSOP flash you need to have a softmod working.

And this currently, ain't possible, because its messed up.

Another major problem is you don't have a copy of your original EEPROM so - you now need a modchip to fix it.

I need to read closer, my comprehension skills are about zero.  Now i get it.  So through a softmod, do you flash a bios over the original?  I am getting all messed up!

Psy: very nearly there now.  Imagine that the XBox was a normal PC (since it almost is).  Have you ever flashed the BIOS on a normal PC?  Ususally, you make a DOS boot disc, then have a program on it that updates the memory in that the software part of the BIOS resides in.  That's what you'd need to do on the XBox, but the wrinkle is that the XB won't let you boot from any discs other than the original hard drive (or a very cleverly-disguised replacement), which you have to have an image of the EEPROM to make in the first place.  Catch-22.  You need a copy of the EEPROM to change the BIOS, and you can't run software that reads the EEPROM without changing the BIOS.

Ghengis~Ok i get you there.  Now i haven't ever softmodded an xbox, i actually don't understand why someone would want to over tsop.  Now when you softmod it do you ever flash the bios.  I know when i tsop'd mine and flashed with an x2 bios i could run my "hdd" creater dvd which would format a virgin hd and put on evox.  So i am getting you can't do this with a softmod then.  hmm

no only tsopped or chipped xboxes can boot of cd/dvd with an unlocked hd since there aren't any checks for that in the kernel anymore. Softmodded xboxes boot with the retail bios that will bail out when it sees something is wrong. It's definately a con on the softmods but there are good tools to prepare a new hd to work in a softmodded xbox. There are definately advantages that softmodded xboxes have over tsopped ones. main ones are the ability to use live and not having to open up the case.

it's also a lot easier to restore to a factory state when using softmod. You can just delete all of your custom stuff then uninstall the hack. Then it's as good as new.
