Usb Memory Stick
« on: June 26, 2004, 08:59:00 PM »

So Action Replay doesn't support my Lexar USB JumpDrive Secure 128mb card.  My xbox formats my usb drive.. my computer doesn't read it.  So I need something that will read fatx.  Well I can't find anything of course, so my best bet is OzXmemory, but they don't have any support for it on there forums (which have moved).

So how can I creat a .img file for OzX memory to flash my 128mb drive?

or better yet How can I get my gamesaves onto my USB drive? (without using a modded xbox)

I'm sure I'm over looking something.

Edit: Oh I've did a good hour's worth of research before this using google and what other resources I have.  I found a post in Game Exploits about 19 pages long.  The last post was a guy with the same exact problem as me. Link:  No Action-replay / Mega X-key Tuto...

Needing your help,
z0rz

there is a MechInstaller image on xbox-linux which you can just 'load' to the thumb using Ozmemory. It is not the latest one but at least it would give you a linux that support ftp/telnet(just don't do the install but simply emergency linux). Then you ftp your game save of choice to Xbox. For future usage, use the MS dashboard to update your thumb so you can do it on other xbox.

Great answer.  I didn't think about it this way.  I was reading about the linux images on another website I googled up.  It still doesn't do what I was hoping but in the long run it will do what I want.

Thanks alot.

BTW, that old linux may not support your video but shouldn't prevent the ftp/telnet server from running. So you may not see the console messages.

I had troubles finding the Mech Installer images so I will post them.

MechInstaller Images

I had to go through 7 sites on google before I wound up at xbox-linux and then I had to  play with there little links that ask you a billion questions and finally I got to this page which tells you how to do the Linux Install.

Update:  Open OzXmemory then select your drive on the left, then go to Flash Write and choose Open 32 mb image (seriously it's a 32 mb image)  then select MechInstaller-1.0-FATX-8MB-to-32MB.img and click Open.  Then Write to 128 MB Stick (or whatever size stick you have).

I was doing the MechInstaller-1.0-FATX-128MB.img from the "Open 32 MB Image" button and it wasn't working (mem card showed up as Mech Installer 1.0 but there were no game saves).  It's because you need a 32mb image like it says.  Easy stuff.

Now it's quite amazing that only a little 4 block file (which I belive is around 250kilobytes) can run linux (emergency).  The Linux Installer was a ways over 100 blocks.  Over all image was 2mb.

Happy (soft)modding.

Question about the Emergency Linux / MA exploit.  Will it work with a newer dashboard (K: 5101 D: 5960)?  If not, which exploits would?

Hey "enuf" I ma the guy with the same problem as you.  I was wondering if you were able to ftp/telnet using the emergency linux? I can't get it to work. If you did get it to work what did you do exactly?
