If you played on Xbox Live then it should have patched the exploit. Maybe.

after reading some more, I believe I can access the hard drive through my PC by hot swapping, correct?

I'm pretty sure the problem is:
a) my xbox got updated from somebody running xbox live and the softmod doesn't support the higher version of the xbox, or the higher version fixes the gamesave exploits that the lower versions can use
\B) something's messed up with my softmod files and being able to access my hard drive will in some way let me modify or return to normal the files that have changed.

Any other possibilities?  am I correct in assuming either of these?

wow slow down a minute. First make sure if the upgrading was really the problem and maybe not some removal of some other file. I understand you are not running an audio hack since i didn't hear you complain after having to put in some button sequence before you actually booted into evox. If you were running a font exploit the xbox wouldn't even booted normal when the dash got upgraded.
Since you are in the ms dash you could easilyu check your dashboard version. Go to settings and then system info. wait untill the scrolling text finishes.
Anyway also since you have acces to the msdash you are always able to use a gamesave exploit to get ftp acces again.
And maybe if you are lucky someone just used some sort of audio switch. See if when you go into the music section there is an empty field below soundtrack.

well your dash seems upgraded somehow. That is strange though cuz normally it would boot into an error screen when there are hacked fonts present. maybe m$ updates the fonts also in the newer dashes.
And yeah you would need a retail disc of eiher 007 agent under fire, mechassault or splinter cell. and you need a mem card also but if the system is softmodded there might be an exploited save on the hd allready. you could find that out in the memory section. Then you need fresh copy of a 4920 dash. you could find that on slayer's auto installer. You offcourse also could hotswap but that involves some risks though

what do I need to do after hotswapping?  How can I change the dashboard version?  can anybody tell me, or point me in the right direction?  thx

this all seems like such a hassle, i might just hard-mod it, but I wanna try this first....

one more question, after hot-swapping, I need to basically redo the softmodding process ie. the audio/font hack, even though I have those files saved in the memory, right?

ok, so i finally got around to trying to downgrade the dash.  I hot-swapped and used xboxhdm to load load in dash 4920.  And after booting up, it did not boot into evox.  It booted into the regular xbox screen.

It is supposed to boot into evox as it did before correct?  Or is there anything else I need to change?  Or do I need to run the 007 game save and do something with that?

I checked the dash just to make sure the downgrading worked, I got:
K5101
D4920

looks ok to me.  So any ideas, it seemed that downgrading the dash didn't work, unless i'm missing a step after it.  Thanks in advance
