Write Protection On Aladdin Advance
« on: November 02, 2004, 02:57:00 AM »

Hi. I have soldered about 10 boxes with this chip now, also v1.6. but the "write protection" doesnt seem to work. if i boot with chip enabled (hold for 1 second) i have no problem flashing it. and if i hold for 2 seconds, the led starts flashing, and i can still flash the bios. Anyone have the same "problem"?   <

The chips you have fitted must be the Advance 32 versions as there is no write protect on these. You can flash them without any button holding.
The 64 chips you have to hold the power button for about 4 secs to enable the flash  <

I read at alladin's homepage, that in the 1.6 BIOS they have disabled the 5 sec function.

quote:

'5 seconds: chip enabled - flash enabled (release power button when led is flashing)
[Please note this has been disable in the newer versions to prevent people from damaging their chips]

end quote

Can you figure  <

It's not only on 1.6, but on v1.0, 1.1, 1.4, 1.6. These are the one's i've installed this chip on. and i dont have any problem flashing them when the "flash protection"is supposed to be on.   <

That should be a 64. I would say this is a clone which is why the CPLD code is allowing the Flash to be always enabled.  <
