Error 13
« on: April 13, 2004, 09:41:00 AM »

Error 13 is a dashboard error.  You've probably modified or deleted something on C: drive that you shouldn't have.

If you have your eeprom.bin or hddkey, then you can unlock your drive.  If not, then you'll have to hotswap.  Both involve opening your Xbox and connecting your HD to your PC.

After it's connected, use HDD_Driver (never works for me) or xlinux (much better IMO) to access the disk and fix/replace the C: files.  If you don't have your original files, then you can grab dashboard 4920 from the Slayers EvoX Auto-Installer ISO.

If you describe what you changed or tried to do, then maybe we can tell you more specifically which files to fix.

13 - kernel - Dashboard launch fail (due to missing/bad key, or anything else that would prevent it from running) and the dashboard didn't specify why it failed.

Ok I have a quick question. Instead of hotswapping it to the PC, is there anyway I can hotswap it to my modded xbox while running slayers on my modded xbox? and just use the factory restore and go from there? I really suck at PC hardware and rather just hotswap the HD to my modded xbox.

yes you can hotswap to another xbox
just power both on, then swap the ribbon cable.
and if clicking the ms-dash link in evox loads evox again

1. you didn't specify the location of the msdash in evox.ini
2. you replaced xboxdash.xbe with the evox file by mistake.

Okay, I'm unclear on what exploits you're using.  Where are you getting error 21?

If you're only using the gamesave exploit, then you can get to the MS dashboard by rebooting.  The "Dashboard" option in EvoX will never work, because the game disc is in the drive, and it will boot that automatically.  You might as well remove the item from evox.ini.

If you're using the audio exploit, then you can edit evox.ini and make it point to "C:\xboxdash.xbe".

If you're using the font exploit, then you need to have a patched copy of xboxdash.xbe and store it in a different location (e.g. C:\xftdash.xbe).  You can use XTF2XFTpatcher to do this.  As well, you have to edit evox.ini to point to the patched dash.

Well it's weird actually...

I'm only using the gamesave exploit, that's the only exploit I've ever used. And that MS Dashboard thing has been the case when it was working a while back, but I wasn't able to boot boXplorer.

But that's not my concern at the moment, I'm just wondering how to get to a dashboard. And I'm getting the error 21 screen whenever I just boot the Xbox without a disk in it (where the dashboard's supposed to be). So if anybody has some help or anything, thanks.

Btw, would it be possible if one of my friends copied his Xbox's C drive and I got it transferred to my computer, and then I were to transfer it to my xbox, would that work? Oh, and his box is modded using the gamesave exploit, and it's not biffed or anything.

Okay, I see now.

I guess something in your C: drive is messed up for some reason.

Yes, you should be able to copy your friend's entire C: drive to yours, unless you have kernel 5713 or higher and your friend has an older dashboard.

Maybe you could just run a live-enabled game and upgrade your dashboard?  Then again, that depends if you already have the latest dashboard or not.

Make sure you have at least these files (unmodified):

C:\Audio\ (directory full of WAV files)
C:\xboxdashdata.xxxxxxxx\ (mostly XIP files)
C:\fonts\XBox Book.xtf
C:\fonts\Xbox.xtf
C:\xboxdash.xbe

Optional files are:

C:\xodash\ (Xbox Live dash)
C:\XBox Book.xtf (backup font file)
C:\Xbox.xtf (backup font file)

Okay, I thought it best to just take some pics of my xbox through my FTP program.

Btw, I think I signed some of the .xbe files, if that might do anything...

Well, I seemed to have screwed myself. In trying to get rid of error 21, I came up with error 13. I deleted the c:\xboxdashdata folder trying to go back to normal. I guess I should have paid closer attention to original folders. I can't find a replacement in the "usual channels" Any suggestions on how to fix this without hotswap?

I can still get into the Evox dash though 007, and I still have FTP access.
