Game Save Renaming
« on: February 05, 2004, 01:07:00 PM »

Typical senario, when there are ten of you racing on PGR2 with a game save made by a third party, everyone has the same name above the car. I have noticed that the SaveMeta.xbx file has the drivers name in it. However if you change it, the game save is corrupted. Is there a way to successfully change the name of a game same? I have looked at the Profile.sav file with a Hex editor but find no trace of the driver details.

Will have a go at that. But I think I may have done something like that already. I might try to make a new profile, ftp to pc then rename the main folder the same as the new emply one. Then ftp back and check. I will post result.

Thanks

ph34r.gif  for the jolt.

1. Run PGR2 and create a new profile, with the name you want others to see above your car during system link or I guess live. (I don’t have live so this is untested).
2. Make a back up of your own original game save.
3. Transfer the new profile to your PC.
4. Delete the new profile from the XBOX
5. Delete the SaveMeta.xbx file from the folder containing you original profile.
6. Transfer the new SaveMeta.xbx from the new profile to the original profile folder.
7. Change the name of the original profile folder to the new profile folder name.
8. Transfer over to XBOX.
9. Test game. Run PGR2, you should see the new name and the game should run.

If you change the SaveMeta.xbx WITHOUT changing the folder name the profile will be corrupted and the save rendered useless.

Enjoy.

If this is already know, how come no one knew the answer?  ph34r.gif

Whilst changing the names of many save profiles for PGR2 I recognised the need for but one change.

Make a new profile. FTP to PC.
Copy Profile.sav from the game save you want to use.
Paste the Profile.sav, thus over writing the sav file in the new profile.
End.

Most games have saves that are signed with a key (the people who knew how to extract these went way way underground) theses keys can be game specific, xbox specific or both as far as I know.

However I've seen for some games they have laps security on them as I think you have found out

Howabout trying to change the profile/save name on a game like Spiderman 2.  It has 1 save but 3 slots within.  I'm probably going to have to try seeing if the same method above works for SM 2, only swapping-renaming 3 files instead of 1.

I got this to work on not only PGR2, but pretty much any game that uses the same type of saving scheme where the savename is the same as the profile.  I haven't been able to try it on a game where the metasave.xbx ISN'T the same though, however.  I'm trying to get this done on Spider-man 2 so I guess I'll be giving it a shot tonight when I get off of work.  Bravo to Spilliage for figuring this out though, I swear I tried EVERYTHING the day before I read this forum.
