Auf + Raincoat + Telnet = No Flash
« on: January 14, 2004, 04:37:00 PM »

Hey all.... I did everything right.... soldered top two points (plus 1 on bottom ~ yea... I know... didn't need to).... I tested the points with an ohmeter and they are good..... I loaded 007, then raincoat .501.... all is fine.... I telnet... and thats fine... backup bios okay.... but then I try to flash.... and I get an error:

DETECTED: Winbond W49F020 (256k)
Programming with bios.bin...Read 262144 bytes from file
 Erasing...
   ERASE ERROR AT +0x0...read 0x09
   DONE
Error:  Erase failed for block at +0x0, reads as 0x09
     Could your chip be write-protected?
Complete

Any ideas?????

What was the last command you entered to flash the bios?  Was it something like ./raincoat -p 256kbios.bin?  If you did this you might be in a world of hurt.  If you did it correctly and you had a bios already loaded into the save game file, then you should have entered something like 4980_256k.bin instead of 256Kbios.bin.  Sound familiar.  If you did it correctly and still get an error.  Then yeah it sounds like soldering.  But if you entered 256Kbios.bin then I recommend that you don't turn off your xbox.  This will keep your EEPROM chip powered and you will still be able to boot off of the game disc and telnet into it.  If not you may have to invest in a Modchip.

When in telnet... I typed exactly this:

./raincoat –p bios.bin –v

I took the evoxm7 bios... and renamed it to bios.bin....  The bios is fine... it didn't erase at all... but, that's the problem.... it can't overwrite until it erases....

I checked my solder points.... with an ohmmeter and they are all good....

I don't know if it matters... but I have the 1.5 version of the config file......

if it cant erase it means the soldering is bad!!!! try soldering the points on the underside of the mobo too.

i had that same error message for almost a month now. i kept thinking it was my soldering...but today i was finally able to fix it, all i needed to do was upgrade the raincoat i was using, i was almost certain that i had .501 but i guess i never had it, once i upgraded, it worked like a charm.... hope that helps...
