new biosses won't do any good. If you got a new kernel 5530 phoenix will not run and give a black screen. Just run evo-x and sign all xbe's thats the only option to softmod

Dancast if you didnt get the flickering PBL screen, then maybe you have an oler version with the Conexant chip...

Krayzie can you point me to the right source for loading ev0-x and signing xbe's ... I think I know what you are saying but its been a while since ive modded, this is my first attempt at a softmod.

So it definitely should be possible right? The 2.0 dash has nothing to do with this?

I'll search around the forums for help on signing xbes and loading evo-x, although I don't understand how you can load evo-x if the bios doesn't load properly first ... so again i hate to sound like im not searching the forums but anyone let me know if you can while I find the right tutorial for me.

Also, this new 5530 kernel, i assume that is what I have, I will check, but do you think its just a matter of time before the devs hammer this one out?

I just bought this bundle too. I haven't tried to softmod it yet because I don't want to open it to hotswap my drive, and I don't have an AR (yet). Have you tried to downgrade your 2.0 dash? (I'm a newb when it comes to xbox modding so honestly I am not 100 percent clear as to whether or not this is possible with an unmodded box). However, I'm wondering the same thing about the suggestion to load EvoX. How is it possible without either flashing the BIOS or using PBL??? If you have any success, could you do me a favor and post back here regarding how you handled your softmod. I get my Action Replay tomorrow, so if I happen to get it working first I'll let you know how I did it.

I have the bundle too and was able to softmod successfully.
The manufacturing date of my set was Oct03. Thus the kernel and dash was of the 'right' version to do the softmod.

tarunmann, you can load the signed evox from the game exploit. If you have the new 5530 kernel, then the PBL would not load the bios and therefore could not run any unsigned apps. Thus, you have the choice of running the game exploit all the time to run evox and signed apps OR flash your TSOP OR get a chip.

soon2b, I would not suggest that you buy the AR. A lot of posts said that the newer AR would not transfer the exploit correctly. Get the cheaper M$ memory card or other brands. I actually made my own cable and got an existing USB memory stick to work (saved me some $).

Am I to assume that means yours has an older kernel than 5530 because of the date it was manufactured (?), do you happen to know what the cutoff date would be for the boxes that you can softmod?

I read that too, but I thought it was related to the AR card itself, not the software or dongle. Is this incorrect? (ie - could I not use the AR with an xbox mem card). Also, I am sure I could wire the cable, but maybe you could tell me this: Would anything prevent me from using a gameshark with a standard xbox memory card to upload the game save to it?

You're right on these two things. The kernel that I have is 5101. I would not know the exact cutoff date but some posts reported problems as early as sept03.

I quite sure standard xbox memory card would work too though I've yet to try it.

So I guess I got far I think being my xbox is either a ver 1.4 or 1.5. and My dash is on 4920 and kernel not sure or even looked at it. and I have live option on main ms dash before I did any of this.
any other assistance would be thankfull!

I would not be too sure about the kernel version if I did not check it first. It might just save you time.

shallow, that's funny, I just did the same thing with my GS dongle right before I read this.

For anyone with a GS and not an AR: I'm not sure if it works with the GS driver (don't see why it wouldn't though), but if you have a gameshark dongle, download the action replay software from datel, plug in your dongle (with memory card seated) and you will be prompted to install the software for your new hardware. Choose specify a location and navigate to the C:Program FilesDatelActionReplay XboxDrivers folder and click on the xbreader.inf. You now have a working Pro Action Replay with a Gameshark dongle. For the record, GameShark is cheaper and easier to find (ie carried at Wal-Mart, Target, etc whereas AR is not) than the Pro Action Replay.
