im gonna be a penis here and explain this as slow and lengthy as possible

what your doing is somewhat correct

youve got the bert and ernie files in the right places... well uve overkilled it.. u dont need them in the root dir (c:/)

if theres a font dir u only need them in there

so yeah uve renamed the originals to a backup
yeah uve got the bert and ernie files in there as the new font files...

yeah you put the default.xbe in the root dir (c:/)


but wait.. lets see how bert and ernie works

when u boot your xbox.. it laods teh font files pretty much right away... now.. what the files do is kinda overflow the memory... they exceed a limit that ms didnt set a limit to.. if u understand that..

now.. once that limits breached bert and ernie are free to do whatever they want.. they could have sex.. or they could run illegal files (according to ms)

so they do that... theyre gonna load your evox file!

wait a second.. theres no default.xbe file to load
whats going on... bert and ernie dont know what to do.
they look in the fonts dir where theyre located and cant find what they were programmed to load...
oh well. we give up.. error 21...

get it?

basically.. u NEED that default.xbe file in the fonts dir too.. thats where its getting pointed to...

it needs to be in the same dir as the exploit

I just tried copying over the entire contents of the "SIgned Phoenix bios loader" and got the same thing  (to the c:)

ok system restored back to orignal state....

anyone have any suggestions? As far as i know i did everything right.

I just checked... the  xbox.xtf, Xbox Book.xtf  files in both directories are different sizes.. which is odd...  


fontsXBox Book.xtf is 13.7 megs
XBox Book.xtf is  16.2 megs
Xbox.xtf is 14.8megs
fontsXBox.xtf is 18.2megs

the fault is that you only need to copy bert and ernie to c:/fonts

also, it's OK that the xbox and xbox book files are different in size.

does live patch the machine for exploits or something?

I got the xbox from a friend who had live installed. The xbox version is 1.2

what version of live do you have? The latest version? Then the fonts do NOT work. This is because MS knows about the hack and fixed it in their latest dashboard version (which you automatically download when you want to play on live!!!)

Can you use the 007 hack to ftp into your xbox? That way you could be able to upload the old dashboard and then you can use the font hack again...
