Playing Backups On Live
« on: December 23, 2003, 07:51:00 AM »

I was thinking about how to play my backups with xbox live.

The problem is with the different bios. So you HAVE to be using the original bios.

But can't you just copy a whole game to your E: drive (using ftp) and then use the xbedump -habibi command to sign the default.xbe file with the 007 key.

Then I load up 007 (original game) and then choose load saved game and it goes to evox. Then I load the game I just ftp'ed over and I can go on live with my backup, cuz I'm not using a different bios.

Anyone tried this already?

The signature of the XBE you run from EvoX would still need to be validated by the private key.  The XBE would obviously not work by default, and signing it with the habibi key wouldn't change a thing as far as the MS BIOS is concerned.

Uhh, no. Because the hack modifies the BIOS it will get you banned.

Uhh, no. Because the hack modifies the BIOS it will get you banned. And because its impossible to run code and re-fix the BIOS, its impossible, you'd need the private key.

Really?  I thought the gamesave just loads a different dashboard.  Maybe I didn't explain myself.

If I put a game on E, and NOT load PBL, is Live possible then?

Ya, the exploit modifies the key even if you don't load PBL. Live WILL detect this and ban you.

The key is IN the BIOS!

By altering the key, you alter the BIOS.

Think about it, the retail BIOS will NOT load anything that is not correctly signed. But after running the exploit, you CAN load an incorrectly (Habibi. This is incorrect as it is not using MS's key!) signed xbe. So, 2 + 2 = 4, the exploit MUST be modifying the BIOS to accept a new key. So after loading the exploit you are NO LONGER running the retail BIOS.
