Boot Loop Help
« on: September 28, 2003, 11:34:00 AM »

Can someone please help me,. I software modded my xbox using the the gamesave exploit. Unfortunately i didnt know about leaving the xbox unplugged for a great length of time would result in this problem.  I turn the xbox on and it looks as though its trying to load up the clock set thingy, anyway, it then reboots and follows this process, over and over. I have read through the forums trying all the different techniques, with no avail.  Ive even  left it going through this boot after boot for about 5 hours and it still refuses to come out it. Anyone got any ideas.  Please help.

From the other posts Im assuming its a clock loop error of some sort.

Put the game in (007 or MA) and try and boot from the DVD.
you may need tp press the eject button while it is trying to boot. Eventualy you should be able to laod the game. Once the game is loaded you should be able to run the hack from the game save and ftp on to the xbox or load the MSdash so you can set the clock. ph34r.gif

Um....yes you can.
The DVD rom boots before the HD. So if there is a game in there (and your shit is in working order) it will by pass any hack you have on there.
That's why when you boot or restart with a game in the DVD drive you don't see PBL or any of the other font boot up shit. It just goes right to the game.

To get my xbox out of the loop, I have to connect the xbox and pc. I have heard that this works for a number of people.

Well I'm not sure what it is but I know it's not PBL because PBL doesn't even load...

Oh and if you ever get out of this loop I'd say it's time to start using some new fonts. B&E reloaded and big fonts won't loop like this....

Well I am using realoded and it works perfect for me. I have one of those "magic xboxes" that you hear about from time to time. Mine simply will not loop at least with the setup I have on it now anyway. I have left it unpluged as long as 3 days and it goes right to evox every time. I was actally trying to get it to loop because I was going to take it on a trip with me and didn't want to show up with a broken xbox.
But I am aware that this is not always the case. There are to many X factors when it comes to the soft mods.

I have been experimenting with this over the last week.

I use bigfonts as these automatically set the date and time to a default (4th july), but only once theve finally loaded. This is useful for those that dont have access to MSDASH to reset the clock after a loop.

As for coming out of loops, if i leave my network cable plugged in so its conected to my pc and the internet, it loops about 3-6 times then boots up AND automatically gets the current time and date from the internet.

I tried leaving the network cable out and starting it up (after being unplugged all night of course) and i let it loop for about 30mins before deciding to plug network back in, switching off and on, and a couple of loops later it started up fine with current date/time.

I have noticed, that the xbox boots up with slightly different graphics with and without the network cable plugged in, i assume this is because with it plugged in, its got to detect network settings etc...

Anyway, i have come to the conclusion that giving the xbox internet access through internet connection sharing speeds up the loop problem.

More tests currently running..........

I did another test, with another conclusion and a solution theory.

After letting my box reboot for 10mins without the network cable plugged in, i decided to try it connected to my network, but without Internet Connection Sharing enabled.

The console booted up first go, this proves that having a network connected to the xbox (even if its got no internet access) helps with the clock loop problem.

The date was automatically set to 4th July as im using Bigfonts, after re-enabling internet connection sharing, the date and time set themselves correctly.

NOW HERES MY THEORY

Is it possible to make a network cable that will fool the xbox into thinking its connected to to a network, thus slowing down the boot process and allowing the fonts to kick in before the clock set page.

Is this possible by joining wires at the end of a network cable??
Apart from connecting new connectors to the end of cables, im not really in the know on how networks work, what info gets send down which wire etc..
But surely a simple crossover of wires could fool the xbox long enough, so people without a network can bypass the clock loop.

Any ideas, suggestions welcome.
