No Modchip Hdd Replacement Tutorial

OK, here is the problem. I have Windows 98se on all my computers and I want to install a bigger hard drive on my Xbox.  What do I need to do dif. in this tut. to get it to work?  From what I read you can't use liveinfo on a Windows 98 computer, is this true? if so, what do I need to do to get the same info. liveinfo gives you?  I'm very picky with what I do to my Xbox and I don't try or install anything 'till it's been tested and proven to work, can't afford to buy a new box.  If anyone knows how to install a new hard drive with a Windows 98 machine then please write a tut. or let me know how it is done.  By the way, THANKS to everyone for the programs that allowed me to install a modless hack in my Xbox.  I'm using the audio hack by Mordenkainen

I'm not sure if liveinfo works on win98, however, it won't break anything if you try to run it to see.  All liveinfo is used for is generating a new key for locking your replacement drive.  If it doesn't work, any other program that can do this will work just fine.

Thanks for the reply. If by chance liveinfo doesn't work, what other program does this?

Edit:

Ok, I tried liveinfo on Windows 98se and it gives me an error that it will only work with Windows 2000/XP/NT. Does anyone know what else will substitute for liveinfo on a Windows 98se machine?

Hey I havent bought a bigger hd yet or really know much on how to get one to work I was wondering if this would work . On http://www.system-mods.com they have 120 hd set up for 10 bucks extra to work on a modded xbox. Will this work with a normal xbox ?  Here it is http://shop.system-m...oduct.asp?3=110 . anyone know if this would work for a unmodded sounds like it would be alot easyer since i havent bought a hd yet?

I downloaded the liveinfo file over and over again thinking it was corrupted too. But its NOT!! lol

Use winrar to open it instead of winzip and it should open up fine.

I hope i can do this tutorial right.

Only problem is Hex I already installed evox using 007 AUF hack and installed the font hacks as well as the signed phoniex bios loader. I noticed someone else mentioned this before, but how would I go about doing this exactly?

Thanks in advance

He told me to just use the game save hck to load evox. Then it will give a good key.

I haven't done it yet but I think he knows what he is talking about.

Exactly what I told spike.  All you need to do is run evox using the gamesave hack (so bust out the game again).  Then make sure you get the backup folder from the correct place.  The reason for this is the font hack causes evox to generate a key that only works with the font hack.   Would be fine except the xbox unlocks the drive before the font hack runs.  The bios loader upsets it even more because it will generate the key according to the loaded bios.

To make a long story short.. just use the gamesave hack to backup and then grab the backup folder from the gamesave hack's folder that I show you in the tutorial.

When I installed my new harddrive no tutorials warned me of this and I already had the font hack, bios loader, and evox installed.  The key it generated did not work when trying to unlock the drive.  I would only assume the key generated from liveinfo would have been wrong also.  When I just loaded evox through the gamesave hack it generated a good key because it didn't run the font hack or the bios loader.

im having a problem with the backup function in evox off a game save exploit. it claims that it is backing up but it doesnt. i can launch slayers and backup with that but that is under pbl with a font exploit. can you tell me what to add into my evox.ini to get a good backup.

If it says it backed up it will only take a few seconds if that.  You need to check the xbox hdd for a backup folder.  It will most likly be on the E drive if you are following my tutorial (in the 007 or mechassault gamesave folder).  The default ini included in the 007 gamesave hack has the correct backup function included in the ini file.

yep you were right, i didnt bother to look in the gamesave dir. could i use config magic and unlock the retail hdd and not deal with un/locking the old and new drive, or does it have to be locked to use with the no modchip exploit.

The drive has to be locked before put into your xbox.  If it is not and you have no modchip/flashed bios then you will get a service error.  You can use it to unlock and disable locking to be used on your PC if you like.
